Known for its wineries, golf courses and outstanding school district, Rancho Bernardo’s suburban appeal draws in buyers hoping to enjoy luxury-style amenities in easy reach of Downtown San Diego. “It’s a community that really is good for any age group,” says Myrna Estremera, the homeowners association manager at Eastview RB Community Center who has lived in the neighborhood since 1999. “It was originally created as a retirement community however it kind of deterred from that and became more family-friendly due to the great school district so now we have more variety and diversity.”

Popular, longstanding restaurants
Interstate 15 cuts right through the neighborhood and is lined with a variety of retail and dining options for residents to choose from, along with plenty of grocery stores like Albertsons and Costco. The dining scene expands far beyond a few chain locations along the highway, however. “We have a couple restaurants that have been here for quite some time,” Estremera says. “The Veranda is inside the Rancho Bernardo Inn, which is a major hotel for golfing, and Carver’s Steakhouse is very popular and has been around forever. But the big thing here is Bernardo Winery.” The winery has been around since 1889, serving its famous wines alongside classic Italian dishes.

Hop on Interstate 15
The interstate makes it a convenient commute for those heading into Downtown San Diego, located just 25 miles south of Rancho Bernardo. However, for some residents, the noise created by traffic makes Interstate 15 more of an inconvenience. “Some homes sit up high, a little closer to the freeway, and those people don’t appreciate the noise,” Estremera says. “But for homes sitting below, typically the trees and that type of thing block the sound so it honestly depends where you’re situated.”
