As San Diego's "Golden Triangle," University City is bordered by Miramar to the east, La Jolla to the west and Mission Valley to the south. Comprised of two neighborhoods
University City is divided by Rose Canyon. The northern half is primarily commercial and multifamily buildings, while the southern half, also known as University Square, features residential streets. Genesee Avenue serves as a connector between the two halves, unifying the neighborhood. Most off-campus students live in apartments such as Villa Vicenza and Village Square in the northern region, renting out two-bedroom homes for anywhere between $2,500 and $4,000 per month. The southern end sits on hilly terrain, master-planned by renowned architect William Krisel in the 1960s, who designed many of the eye-catching midcentury modern homes with distinctive butterfly roofs and cement block construction. In terms of pricing, single-family homes in University City typically range from $800,000 to $1.2 million, while condos and townhomes usually fall between $450,000 and $900,000.

San Diego public schools earn straight A’s
Part of the San Diego Unified District, which earns an overall A from Niche, students in the neighborhood can start out Curie Elementary, advance to Standley Middle, then finish off at University City High, all earning A’s. Spending the summer at Standley
Rose Canyon, located across from University City High, is a wildlife preserve that features a 5.5-mile hiking trail that spans from Genesee to Bothe Avenue. The canyon is a popular spot for bird-watching, with at least 99 species to spot, and panoramic city views. In the summer, the 22-acre Standley Park hosts the annual University City Celebration on Fourth of July. This festive event features activities like sack races, 5K runs, and a pet parade. Standley's Summer Concerts offer decade-themed live music, ranging from 60s classics to 90s rock. La Jolla Cove, located just 5 miles west of the neighborhood, is an ideal spot for diving, with up to 30 feet of water visibility.
Ice skate at Westfield UTC
Westfield UTC, formerly known as University Towne Centre, is a central hangout located just off La Jolla Village Drive. Built in 1977, this expansive mall features an ice-skating rink, dog park and over 100 stores and dining options. Seasons 52 is a popular spot for date nights and weekday happy hour drinks, while University City Marketplace offers spots like Aaharn Thai, serving up drunken noodles and fresh spring rolls. For groceries, Vons and Sprouts Farmers Market are in University Square.

San Diego Temple serves Latter-day Saints
The San Diego Temple is a striking landmark visible from Interstate 5, its white spires looming over the freeway. With a total area of 72,000 square feet, it is the third temple built in California. Although currently closed for renovation until 2025, the temple typically serves Latter-Day Saints in the San Diego area and northwestern Mexico. The public is invited to tour the grounds.
Blue Line bus leads to downtown
Bordered by State Route 52 as well the 805 and 5 freeways, residents can get to Downtown San Diego and the San Diego Airport in about 13 miles. Genesee Avenue leads to Scripps Memorial Hospital in 3 miles, while the SuperLoop bus rapid transit and the Blue Line (San Diego Trolley) connect residents to Old Town, South Bay and UC San Diego's campus.
