Strawberry
Muir Woods and Mount Tamalpais are in Strawberry’s backyard
Within the peninsula, the Strawberry Recreation District maintains several parks, walking paths and playgrounds, such as Brickyard and Harbor Cove Parks. Harbor Cove has the only public boat access in Strawberry. Residents can purchase passes and memberships to access tennis courts, swimming pools and classes for kids and adults. The district hosts year-round events at its recreation center, including Halloween gatherings and community nights with food and arts vendors. And outdoor recreational opportunities surround Strawberry. The iconic Muir Woods National Monument is about 8 miles away, where six miles of trails weave through 1,000-year-old redwoods, the tallest trees on the planet. Mount Tamalpais State Park, about 5 miles away, offers hiking, camping and wildlife viewing. From its uppermost peak, there are views of Marin County, San Francisco and Mount Diablo, and the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range is occasionally visible in the distance.Wide range of homes built starting mid-century
Developers began building in Strawberry in the 1950s. Ranch-style homes, two-story mid-century modern homes, multi-level contemporary and Mediterranean villas are settled into the hills, some in their original condition and others have been recently remodeled. Many homes have gardens and decks. Strawberry also has a number of apartment buildings and condominium and townhome complexes. “Strawberry is diverse that way,” says Youngling. “Some people move from the more affluent parts like Tiburon into a smaller townhouse because it’s easier. Or a condo on the water makes them feel connected, but it’s much smaller and they don’t have to worry about taking care of a big property.”Single-family homes in the northern area range from $1 million for smaller homes to $2.5 million for larger homes with large lots. Homes in the southern area or large estates in the central area range from $3.4 million to $5 million. Occasionally, a waterfront mansion between $8 and $15 million may come on the market. Those at the very high end are multi-level estates with modern luxury updates and views of the San Francisco skyline, and some have private boat docks. On the other end, multi-story condo buildings overlook Seminary Cove with units priced from $650,000 to $1 million. Larger condos on De Silva Island range from $1.9 million to $2.5 million.
Schools achieve high ratings and Tam High offers unique opportunities
Kids start at Strawberry Point Elementary, then continue on to Mill Valley Middle. Both schools earn an A from Niche. Students may attend Tamalpais High, which also gets an A, and is a school with a rich activist history. It is the subject of David Crosby’s song, “Tamalpais High (At about 3).” Students in the school’s Conservatory Theatre Ensemble travel to London each year to see plays, attend workshops and tour the city’s cultural sites.Strawberry's local dinning and shopping spots
The Lighthouse Bar & Grill, which sits on Richardson Bay in the southern part of Strawberry, is a destination spot for drinks with a view. Though attached to the recreational Club at Harbor Point, the restaurant is open to the public. The neighborhood hub of Strawberry Village offers shopping and casual dining, including sandwich shops, Starbucks, clothing boutiques, West Elm Furniture and a Safeway. The Spanish Table sells charcuterie items and Iberian wares and holds weekly wine tastings. Upscale, waterfront restaurants line Highway 101, including Buckeye Roadhouse, a favorite local haunt for elevated comfort food in a lodge setting.Easy access to San Francisco and hot spots in the region
Highway 101 connects Strawberry to the rest of North Bay, as well as to San Francisco 10 miles south. Buses stop along Tiburon Boulevard and Highway 101 and head to local destinations such as Sausalito or the Corte Madera shopping mall. The neighborhood is 25 miles from San Francisco International Airport and just 5 miles from Marin Health Medical Center.
