Cataldi Park offers plenty of outdoor space and greenery
Cataldi Park occupies the center of the neighborhood, stretching for about 17 acres from Morrill Avenue to Interstate 680. Its tennis courts, walking trails, picnic areas and playgrounds are just blocks away for most residents. It’s a popular spot for walking dogs, jogging and riding bikes around its looping pathways. Santa Clara County’s sprawling hills, meadows and nature reserves are just a few miles away. “It’s a great spot for people who like the outdoors. It’s very close to hiking out in the hills east of San Jose,” Stoneberger says.Highly rated public schools in North San Jose
The neighborhood is zoned for highly rated San Jose public schools. Students in the north side attend Laneview Elementary and Morrill Middle School, both of which earn A-minus ratings from Niche. Those in the south side attend A-minus-rated Cherrywood Elementary and A-rated Sierramont Middle. The last four years are spent at Independence High School, which gets an A-minus. The high school is a magnet school for students who want to explore math, science and engineering subjects.Midcentury homes that may appeal to first-time homebuyers
Cataldi’s homes were largely built in the late 1960s and ‘70s and feature an array of ranch-style and Traditional homes popular during the mid-20th century. They typically have attached garages and enough yard space for landscaping and gardening. Mediterranean detailing is also apparent – some homes have the red-tiled rooftops and off-white stucco siding that’s ubiquitous in many California suburbs. Prices typically range from $1.5 million to $2.5 million. “It’s within range for first-time homebuyers. It’s not in the luxury realm,” Stoneberger says. Safety is also part of the appeal for prospective homebuyers. The neighborhood gets a CAP Index Crime Score of 2 out of 10, compared to 4 nationally.Residents can drive a mile for shopping and dining
There are several shopping plazas within a mile of the neighborhood, including Park Town Plaza and Northwood Square, both on Landess Avenue. There, residents can pick up a pie from Park Town Pizza Co. or sit down for Vietnamese cuisine at New Pho Saigon. It’s also home to grocery chains and big-box stores like Target, Seafood City Supermarket and Apni Mandi Farmers Market, which specializes in Indian groceries and goods. For everything else, it’s about 10 miles to downtown San Jose, a vibrant, urban district with high-end restaurants, hole-in-the-wall eateries, boutique shops and breweries. The neighborhood is ideally place for commuting around the Bay Area
Cataldi’s western edge is bordered by Interstate 680, a major Bay Area commuter corridor that eases commute times for residents working in Silicon Valley or north in San Francisco or Oakland. It also means that some residents may experience highway noise. The neighborhood also benefits immensely from its proximity to the Milpitas BART station. The BART train takes passengers all over the Bay Area, from North San Jose to San Francisco, Oakland and the East Bay. The nearest hospital is Regional Medical Center, about 4 miles south.
