Luna Park
Variety of Craftsman, Spanish and contemporary housing
The neighborhood has a wide variety of housing styles, says Baty. “They aren’t your basic tract homes; you drive down these streets and see everything from Victorian to Craftsman styles,” she says. “People really care about and take great pride in their homes.” Single-family homes here are situated on small lots with landscaped front lawns and the occasional paved driveway; however, most residents in this neighborhood park their cars on the street. In addition to Craftsman and Victorian housing styles, buyers can find ranch-style homes and bungalows displaying a mix of Spanish-influenced and Mediterranean architecture. Contemporary-style townhouse developments and condo complexes with warm-colored stucco exteriors are also scattered throughout the neighborhood. The neighborhood's largest residential community is the desirable Taylor Morrison Modern Ice Community, which was developed in the late 2010s and consists of two dozen modern apartment buildings centered around the Luna Park green space. Single-family homes in Luna Park typically cost between $1 million and $1.3 million, while townhouses and condo units range from approximately $800,000 to $1.2 million.Access to the Route 101 and Interstate 880 interchange
The U.S. Route 101 and Interstate 880 interchange is adjacent to Luna Park and residents can easily access either highway. Both roadways travel throughout the city and up through Silicon Valley. Residents also have access to several public transportation options. “Luna Park is in a very desirable location close to mass transit,” Baty says. “It’s centrally located for so many things, whether work or family.” The Valley Transportation Authority operates bus routes along Oakland Road and East Hedding Street, which border the neighborhood, while the Civic Center light rail is just under a mile away. The San Joes Mineta International Airport is an approximately 3-mile drive west and offers dozens of nonstop domestic and international flights, but airport noise doesn’t factor into the neighborhood’s noise levels. The San Jose Regional Medical Center is located just under 3 miles away and offers 24-hour emergency services, as well as dozens of other specialty healthcare services, including cardiology, neurosurgery and physical therapy.Mexican cuisine at Mariscos Costa Alegre
Several restaurants are within walking distance of the neighborhood. Mariscos Costa Alegre is a colorful Mexican restaurant with a large outdoor seating area and menu items like seafood tacos and ceviche. Across the street is Taqueria Lorena’s, a counter-service eatery with a casual diner setting specializing in Mexican food. Right next door is Mesquite and Oak, a restaurant serving slow-smoked meats like brisket and sides like cornbread and baked beans. Residents can run errands at local grocery stores like La Plaza Market or El Sol Market, each located on 13th Street, and Safeway supermarket is 1 mile northeast of the neighborhood on Berryessa Road. Across the street from Safeway is the San Jose Flea Market, a vast indoor and outdoor commercial spot full of local vendors.Students zoned for San Jose Unified School District
Kindergarten through fifth-grade students can attend Walter L. Bachrodt Elementary, which has a C Niche rating. Muwekma Ohlone Middle serves grades six through eight and receives a C-plus. Students in secondary school can head to the B-rated San Jose High School, which offers International Baccalaureate programs and a STEM program called Project Lead the Way, a set of courses preparing students for college and careers.Playgrounds and picnics at Luna Park
At the center of the neighborhood is Luna Park, an outdoor space covering just over an acre that features a playground and picnic area, paved walking paths and ample green space. Just under 2 miles north of the neighborhood is the San Jose Municipal Golf Course, which has an 18-hole course that golfers of all skill levels can enjoy. Golfers can also find a driving range and the Muni Bar & Grill at the course. The 26-acre Watson Park sits directly southeast of the neighborhood, offering soccer fields and two basketball courts, walking paths, playgrounds and a designated dog park area.Listening to live music at Berryessa Night Market
Every Friday night from April through October, residents can head to the Berryessa Night Market to enjoy live music, food trucks and vendors selling vintage goods, artwork and other artisan items. During the summer months, the San Jose Municipal Golf Course hosts a weekly Summer Music Series every Thursday evening at the clubhouse patio.Living in the Capital of Silicon Valley
As the Capital of Silicon Valley, San Jose provides residents access to several large technology companies. Luna Park residents are just 3 miles from Zoom and Adobe headquarters, and PayPal’s corporate offices are just 2.5 miles north of the neighborhood. Locals can make the 6-mile drive north on Interstate 880 to Cisco’s headquarters, and the Googleplex is just 13 miles northwest in Mountain View.
