Miner
Suburban Neighborhood in San Jose, California
Santa Clara County 95123
Midcentury ranch-style homes starting at $1.2 million
Lining Miner’s winding streets and cul-de-sacs are midcentury ranch-style homes with a mix of Spanish-inspired and contemporary Craftsman architecture. Properties here have short, paved driveways and attached garages; many homes also have in-ground backyard pools. Wide, well-maintained sidewalks are lined with freshly cut lawns, valley oak trees and king palms. Most residents park their cars in their driveways and garages, but street parking is also available. The neighborhood’s layout lends itself to a quiet suburban atmosphere despite the surrounding metropolitan area. Most homes here sell between $1.2 million and $1.6 million; properties on the higher end were typically recently remodeled and have additions like backyard pools.Martial Cottle Park spans almost 300 acres
Miner Park is a five-acre outdoor space with two half-sized children’s playgrounds; pet owners are often seen walking their dogs along the paved path that loops around the park. Ward says many residents also visit the nearby Martial Cottle Park, a nearly 300-acre outdoor area 1.5 miles north of the neighborhood. “Martial Cottle Park used to be a privately-owned ranch; when the owner passed away about 20 years ago, he had agreed to donate all of his land to the city of San Jose as long as they promised to turn it into a park and wouldn’t use it for residential development – the city kept their promise,” Ward says. Across the park’s hundreds of acres are 3 miles of multi-purpose trails and several reservable picnic areas. The park partners with local agricultural groups to farm and grow crops in the park and assist with leading community learning, Ward says.Locals can head to Martial Cottle Park to celebrate autumn at its Fall Festival, a popular annual event centering around the valley’s agricultural history. Festivalgoers can enjoy everything from live music performances and petting zoos to food vendors and pumpkin patches. Rows of local arts and crafts exhibits and artisan vendor booths are scattered throughout the festival grounds. Admission to the event itself is free, but there is a small parking fee.

Miner residents are less than a mile from nearby shopping centers and restaurants: “If you’re an active walker, you can certainly walk to get your groceries, but most people prefer to drive,” Ward says. The neighborhood is convenient for commuters and sits adjacent to numerous major thoroughfares, including Highway 87 and U.S. Route 101. “In Miner, people are commuting up to downtown San Jose or taking the 101 all the way to the Silicon Valley tech campuses,” Ward says. Adjacent to the neighborhood is the Snell light rail station, which runs along the Blue Line and travels through San Jose’s downtown area roughly 8 miles away. Bus stops along Blossom Hill Road and Snell Avenue are operated by the Valley Transportation Authority. The Kaiser Permanente San Jose Medical Center is approximately 2 miles away and offers 24-hour emergency services. Residents can catch nonstop domestic and international flights at the San Jose Mineta International Airport, a nearly 11-mile drive north.Shopping and dining at four adjacent commercial centers
Bloom Plaza, Downer Square, Blossom Valley Plaza and the Southgate Shopping Center all sit next to each other on the four corners of the Snell Avenue and Blossom Hill Road intersection. Between them, residents can shop for groceries at Smart & Final Extra, browse crafts and home décor at Michaels, pick up pet supplies from Pet Club or go thrifting at the Goodwill of Silicon Valley. This shopping area is also full of dining options, such as Angelo’s Italian Restaurant, a laid-back eatery with menu favorites like manicotti, chicken cacciatore and Chicago-style linguica. Aqui is another popular restaurant with innovative Californian-Mexican fusion dishes and weekly specials.
