Conveniences abound 5 miles from San Jose’s downtown
About 5 miles southeast of San Jose’s lively downtown sits the diverse, suburban neighborhood of Stonegate. Sidewalks connect homes to the neighborhood’s two elementary schools, its shopping center, several green spaces and Tully Community Branch Library. Houses of worship are close by, like Ð?c Viên Buddhist Temple and San Jose Christian Alliance Church, which conducts services in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. “It’s a nice, bedroom community where you know your neighbors. People look out for each other here,” says Broker Associate Chris Alston of Keller Williams Realty-Silicon Valley, who grew up in San Jose and has 25 years of real estate experience. The busy U.S. Route 101, also called the Bayshore Freeway, borders Stonegate: six lanes take commuters south and five lanes connect drivers north to the Bay area. On the other side of the neighborhood, the tranquil Los Lagos Golf Course and narrow Coyote Creek make up Stonegate’s southwest border.

Stonegate’s Spanish-style and ranch-style homes
Sidewalks pass by manicured shrubs, the occasional tall palm tree and compact, tidy lawns. Stonegate’s enclosed roads are lined with single-family homes built between the 1960s and 1970s. Some streets are densely lined with ranch-style homes, while others feature contemporary Spanish-style homes with gabled roofs and red shingles. A tall net separates the golf course from homes along Tuers Road, protecting pedestrians and vehicles from potential stray balls. Home prices range from $1 million to $1.75 million. “It's one of the final affordable places in San Jose,” Alston says. The San Jose metro area’s average home value is nearly $2 million.
