The Broadmoor District is a lively community with a small park, an elementary school and two grocery stores. It sits just north of the city’s downtown district and the San Leandro BART station. “It’s very, very diverse, and it’s got quite a few features that are attractive to first-time homebuyers,” says Realtor Patty Ho of Solution Real Estate, a longtime Bay Area agent. “It’s more affordable than the South Bay, but it’s pretty easy to get to San Jose and Silicon Valley.”

Most of the homes in the Broadmoor District date back to the early 1900s. It features a wealth of well-maintained California bungalows, Mediterranean Revival homes and Craftsman styles that typically range in size from 1,100 to 2,000 square feet. Many of these homes have been upgraded and renovated to bring them into the 21st century. Front and backyards are on the smaller side, but are brimming with shrubs, flowers and greenery. Prices can range from $700,000 for smaller homes to around $1.4 million for larger floorplans. “The market in this part of the East Bay has remained strong. Properties continue to move relatively fast, and people still get offers over the asking price,” says Louis Heystek, a Realtor with Compass, who has sold the San Leandro market for 17 years.

Getting around the East Bay and beyond
Broadmoor District is about a mile from the San Leandro BART stop. Riders can hop aboard either the blue, orange or green lines and travel to North San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco. For those who prefer the open road, Interstate 580 is also nearby and runs east to west from San Rafael to Oakland and San Francisco.
