Broadmoor District
Early 20th century homes well-maintained and renovated
Most of the homes in the Broadmoor District date back to the early 1900s. It features a wealth of well-maintained California bungalows, Mediterranean Revival homes and Craftsman styles that typically range in size from 1,100 to 2,000 square feet. Many of these homes have been upgraded and renovated to bring them into the 21st century. Front and backyards are on the smaller side, but are brimming with shrubs, flowers and greenery. Prices can range from $700,000 for smaller homes to around $1.4 million for larger floorplans. “The market in this part of the East Bay has remained strong. Properties continue to move relatively fast, and people still get offers over the asking price,” says Louis Heystek, a Realtor with Compass, who has sold the San Leandro market for 17 years.McCartney Park and Chabot Regional Park
McCartney Park is a one-acre park at the center of the neighborhood that sits at the intersection of Breed Avenue and Sunnyside Drive. The park has a baseball diamond and gathering spaces for a picnic, and Washington Elementary shares its fenced-in playground for student's recess. For outdoor adventures, it’s less than 3 miles away to Anthony Chabot Regiona' which has multiple hiking and biking trails, fishing piers and an 18-hole golf course.Well-rated public schools
Students start their education at Washington Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche. The school offers a Spanish dual language immersion program for students who want to read, write and learn in another language. The next step is Bancroft Middle School, which gets a C-plus, followed by B-plus-rated San Leandro High. The high school offers a mental health, wellness and support program for those in need.Safeway and FoodMaxx within walking distance
For groceries and everyday essentials, residents are within walking or biking distance of a Safeway on Bancroft Avenue and a FoodMaxx at the Durant Shopping Center. Also on Bancroft Avenue is Zocalo Coffeehouse, a local favorite for espresso and breakfast sandwiches. Next door is Paradiso, an upscale eatery that serves downhome American fare. Downtown San Leandro is about a mile away, and features everything from breweries and cafes to upscale dining. Vietnamese, African, American and Latin American cuisine can all be found there, as well as a variety of independent shops and businesses.Getting around the East Bay and beyond
Broadmoor District is about a mile from the San Leandro BART stop. Riders can hop aboard either the blue, orange or green lines and travel to North San Jose, Oakland and San Francisco. For those who prefer the open road, Interstate 580 is also nearby and runs east to west from San Rafael to Oakland and San Francisco.
