Mariners Isle winds along the Seal Slough, a waterway that branches off from the San Francisco Bay. Despite the name, the neighborhood isn’t on an island, but it is close to the San Francisco Bay. This San Mateo neighborhood is known for its 1970s waterfront homes that line the Seal Slough. Because homes are so close to shopping, dining, golf and the San Francisco Bay, it’s extremely walkable. Mariner’s Isle is also the headquarters of Sony PlayStation. This serves as an employer for the area, and a landmark site for gamers living in Mariners Isle.

Stores and restaurants at Bridgepointe Shopping Center
Bridgepointe Shopping Center is part of the neighborhood and a few restaurants are within driving distance. Bridgepointe Shopping Center has national retailers like Target, Nordstrom Rack and Petco. The Lazy Dog, located in the shopping center, serves a diverse array of food in comfortable setting, and BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse offers pub-style food and beers on tap. For additional shopping and dining, the Hillsdale Shopping Center, about 2 miles south, offers more restaurants and big box retailers like Macy’s, UNIQLO and lululemon. Condos and single-family homes line the sun-soaked streets in Mariners Isle, and some are along the Seal Slough. Mediterranean Revival houses are common throughout, and shrubs and palm trees grow around the neighborhood. Two and three-bedroom single-family homes tend to sell for $1.5 to over $2 million. Two- to three-bedroom condos tend to sell for $570,000 to $950,000, with more expensive units closer to the Bay. Recreation by The Bay
Mariners Island Park is the neighborhood’s waterside greenspace. It’s along a small channel that branches off from Seal Slough and offers a playground, walking trails and a baseball field. While the Seal Slough has visual and ecological appeal, it's typically not used for recreation. For water-focused activities, most head to the nearby San Francisco Bay to swim or kayak. The Mariners Point Golf Center, which has views of the San Francisco Bay and a 9-hole golf course, is next to the neighborhood. The Bay Trail passes by the Mariners Point Golf Center and winds around the San Francisco Bay with 500 miles of trails. For indoor recreation, the Nazareth Ice Oasis offers ice skating and hockey.

Getting around San Mateo
