Lyon Street offers condo living near downtown Santa Ana
Conveniently located near downtown Santa Ana and several major commuter routes, Lyon Street is a small, residential neighborhood with an abundance of reasonably priced housing options. “It's mostly condos and apartments, including some new development. And it’s really close to downtown,” says Jesus Morales, a Realtor at Re/Max New Dimension. If you’re looking for convenient condo living in the heart of Santa Ana, you might find it here on Lyon Street.
A mix of condos, apartments and mobile homes
While there are no single-family homes within the neighborhood, there are plenty of low-rise condominium complexes, apartment buildings and a large mobile home park. Gated condo complexes like Saddleback Park Villas and Normandy Place offer cozy one- and two-bedroom living spaces built in the 1970s that typically cost between $250,000 and $400,000 and on-site amenities including bright blue swimming pools and a little bit of open greenspace. Condos at Normandy Place also include single-car garages. A few blocks away, Warren Park Mobile Home Estates offers a more affordable option. Although Lyon Street has a high density of residents, it still has a laidback feel with tree-lined streets, well-maintained sidewalks and tall hedgerows and privacy fences surrounding apartments and condos.
A short distance from parks, bike trails and the Santa Ana Zoo
Featuring more than 250 animals, Santa Ana Zoo is a 20-acre menagerie and a major local attraction that draws more than 250,000 people annually to the neighborhood. With lush rainforest exhibits, a red barn with rare farm animals and an Ocelot habitat, there’s something for everyone. For community parks and recreation, it's a short walk or drive to Madison Park, a small greenspace with a colorful playground, grassy lawns, sports courts and a community garden. The Pacific Electric Bicycle Trail, also within walking distance, offers cyclists, walkers and runners a lovely urban greenway for outdoor exercise. Avid rock climbers might want to check out Sender One, a climbing gym where you can scale a 50-foot wall or take a morning yoga class.
Lots of nearby options for Mexican restaurants and grocery stores
Several restaurants, bakeries and markets can be found along the neighborhood’s busier thoroughfares, many of which offer authentic Mexican and Latin American fare. You’ll find plenty of taquerias and taco trucks around, like Taco Pronto, Taco Guerrero Si como No and Navarro’s Taqueria, as well as hole-in-the-wall establishments serving up Mexican-inspired sweets and baked goods. Nearby grocery options include R-ranch Market and La Victoria Meat Market, while major chains like Trader Joe’s, Stater Bros. Markets and Costco are just a few miles away. Locals will find local cultural destinations, art galleries, upscale restaurants, movie theaters and retail outlets in the city’s historic downtown district, about 2 miles west of Lyon Street.
Students attend the Santa Ana Unified School District
Public school students attend nearby John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Raymond A. Villa Fundamental Intermediate School and Century High School, all within the Santa Ana Unified School District. Kennedy Elementary offers its students and their families an on-site family resource center that provides emergency care and basic necessities to those in need.
Proximity to Interstate 5 and Costa Mesa Freeway
Location is a major perk for area residents: the neighborhood is bordered by Interstate 5 and the Costa Mesa Freeway, making for an easy commute. “It’s 15 minutes from Disneyland and 15 minutes from the beach, right in the heart of Orange County,” Morales says.
