New Horizons offers a suburban setting in Santa Ana
With its ranch-style houses and blooming gardens shielded behind wrought iron fences, New Horizons is the epitome of what people think when they hear suburban southern California. The neighborhood is located just a few blocks east of the Santa Ana River. It's characterized by wide streets and sidewalks shaded by big mature trees. It’s where you’ll see houses that are generally one story, some Craftsman houses and some Spanish-style homes, right around the corner from one of the city’s most inviting parks.
Ranch-style homes and flourishing gardens for a range of prices
In the grand scheme of Orange County, Santa Ana has always been considered one of the most affordable places to live, says Hani Jazayrli, Realtor with eXp Realty of Greater Los Angeles. But even so, the median home price in the city is around $1 million. “It’s extremely limited inventory, like the rest of Orange County,” Jazayrli says. Houses can cost anywhere from around $500,000 to north of $1 million. Some single-story homes here are built with both stucco and stone. There are some two-story houses here, including Spanish-style homes with big gardens and iron gates. Many of the homes have gardens with big flower bushes in pink, purple and red. Buy a house here on a lot with some palm trees and you’ll be living out your wildest southern California dreams.
Centennial Park has 70 acres of outdoor space outside New Horizons
Just outside of New Horizons is Centennial Park, a 70-acre community gathering space that borders the Santa Ana River bed. There’s tons to do at Centennial Park, including walking along the exercise trail, playing baseball, soccer, basketball or football, having a picnic or skating at the skate park. There’s also a playground for the kids, and a massive, beautiful lake. When you just want to relax, you can walk to a seating area, sit on a bench and watch as the ducks swim by.
Different school pipelines for different addresses
Children in New Horizons can enroll in the Santa Ana Unified School District, which has about 42,000 students and a student-teacher ratio of 22 to 1. School assignments vary based on home address. Some kids in New Horizons are placed at Diamond Elementary School, Carr Intermediate School and Valley High School. Carr Intermediate School, where the mascot is the Mighty Astros, is an engaged school community where kids participate in sports like cross country and clubs like history club and DJ club.
A few spots for burritos, tacos and teriyaki
New Horizons is mostly residential, but there are also a handful of places where you can get some yummy food. At El Comedor Cocina Mexicana, you can feast on huevos rancheros, quesadillas and burritos. Choose between dozens of roll combinations at Yo! Sushi Kitchen and Teriyaki. And there’s always the chance that you’ll come across a food truck, including Mexican eateries serving $1 tacos.
Commute to Irvine, Anaheim or downtown Los Angeles
New Horizons is located just a few miles away from the 55, 5 and 405 freeways. Anaheim is located 10 miles north of the neighborhood, Irvine is 8 miles southeast and downtown Los Angeles is 39 miles northwest
