Custom Santa Fe homes, condos and casitas
Arroyo Chamiso’s homes are each set on around an acre, surrounded by savanna grasslands, juniper trees and views of the Sun and Moon Mountains. All are Santa Fe-style homes from the 1940s to '70s, most of which were designed by Stamm. “With a Stamm home, you’re always getting three things: a traditional kiva fireplace, exposed vigas in the central living area and these beautiful, infinitely refinishable oak floors,” Huberman says. These homes typically have two to five bedrooms and two to three baths, and prices range from $750,000 to $850,000; however, those with larger lots and detached studios can range from $980,000 to $1.3 million, depending on their acreage and bedroom count.Condos are found in the gated Quail Run community, where residents have access to a private golf course, fitness facilities and the Grille Restaurant. Most condos are attached, have two bedrooms and range from $515,000 to $600,000, with ground-level units fetching higher prices. Detached condos called casitas have two to four bedrooms and range from $700,000 to $1.3 million.
Arroyos, mountains and golf courses
The Arroyo de Los Chamisos runs through the center of the neighborhood, its soft sands making it popular with runners and dog walkers. The Sol y Lomas neighborhood here is named for the Sun and Moon Mountains, less than a mile east; the 1-mile Sun Mountain Trail climbs over rocky outcroppings and dirt hills to the mountain’s summit. “You can walk out your door and be only five minutes from the trail and then around another hour from the mountaintop, where you get perfect views of Santa Fe,” Huberman says. The 15-mile Santa Fe Rail Trail also brushes against Arroyo Chamiso’s western edge, running alongside the Santa Fe Railroad. Spanning nearly 6 acres, the Calle Alvarado Park features an open greenspace studded with picnic tables and barbecue stations. Residents and members of Quail Run also have access to its nine-hole golf course, six tennis and pickleball courts, two pools, and nearly 2-mile walking and birdwatching path.Highly rated public and private schools nearby
Local kids can attend Santa Fe Public Schools. Those who live east of the Old Pecos Trail may attend A-minus-rated Wood-Gormley Elementary, while those who live west of the central road may attend C-plus-rated E.J. Martinez Elementary. Both schools feed into Milagro Middle, which scores a C. At the B-plus rated Santa Fe High, students can enroll in engineering and culinary arts programs. The A-rated Saint Michael’s High is a private Catholic alternative that serves Grades 7 through 12; it was founded in 1859 by Jean-Baptiste Lamy, Santa Fe’s first archbishop.Near the Santa Fe Farmers Market
Just 4 miles down the road in the Railyard Arts District, the Santa Fe Farmers Market kicks off every Tuesday and Saturday morning. “The one on Tuesdays is like a mini-event, but the market’s a huge thing to look forward to every weekend,” says Paige Cochran, a local Associate Broker with Keller Williams Realty. Among the dozens of vendors who attend, Heidi’s Raspberry Farm offers a signature raspberry lavender jam, and Moonrise Mini Farm sells gourmet mushrooms.Nearby interstate and hospital access
Arroyo Chamiso sits immediately north of Interstate 25, which runs parallel to the Old Las Vegas Highway. The community is centered around a major thoroughfare known as the Old Pecos Trail, and is bordered west by Saint Francis Drive; both roadways lead to Downtown Santa Fe around 4 miles north, and both are lined with bike lanes. Rail Runner trains travel from the Zia Road station to the Santa Fe Railyard in around 20 minutes, and downtown Albuquerque in around an hour and a half. The CHRISTUS Santa Fe Regional Medical Center lies immediately north of the neighborhood, and the Santa Fe Regional Airport is around 8 miles west.Shopping along Saint Francis Drive and in Downtown Santa Fe
Shopping centers can be found along Saint Francis Drive. The Plaza Entrada’s strip malls all sit in the neighborhood, centered around an Albertsons Market grocery store. The Tibet Kitchen here serves half-crescent dumplings called momos alongside classic Tibetan dishes like beef shapata; its neighbor, Metamorphosis, sells specialty furnishings and offers interior design services. Other nearby grocery stores include Smith's and Food King. The eclectic shopping and dining scene of Downtown Santa Fe is also only 4 miles north; there, Kakawa Chocolate House offers rare hot chocolate elixirs, and the popular Collected Works doubles as an independent bookstore and coffeehouse.
