Privacy, luxury and nature abound near the Santa Fe Plaza
Named for the Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado at its center, the Encantado community is bordered east by the Santa Fe National Forest and Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and surrounded by vast stretches of green open space. “This place is for the kind of person who wants to hear owls hooting, view millions of stars and not see another person for miles when they get home at night,” says Ashley Margetson, a Senior Associate Broker with Sotheby's International Realty and Santa Fe local. In addition to the Four Seasons Resort, Encantado is home to the Los Caminitos and Vista Redonda subdivisions, where luxury properties are set on at least 10-acre lots of juniper and piñon forest, lending the entire area a sense of seclusion. “With the personal privacy and all the green hills around you," Margetson says, "you'll feel like you own your own ranch.”
Scenic woodlands, ski basins and national forests
Arroyos and unmarked trails weave throughout Encantado’s juniper-piñon woodlands. The Santa Fe National Forest borders the community to the east, stretching 1.6 million acres across the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. “As you head into that forest, the area’s junipers and piñons give way to these ginormous aspens and ponderosa pines," says Mark Rochester, a Santa Fe local and Broker with Berkshire Hathaway Homeservice. "It’s really something you have to see." Within the forest, around 11 miles east of Encantado, the Santa Fe Ski Basin is home to 88 runs, some of which reach altitudes over 10,000 feet. Many of the forest’s most popular trails are accessible from the Ski Basin’s parking lot, including the 7-mile Nambe Lake Trail, which leads to the clear waters of its namesake lake.
Hillside Santa Fe-style homes with vast acreage
Set on secluded dirt roads, Encantado’s sprawling homes come with mountain views and acres of juniper-piñon woodlands. “In most cases, you’re getting 10 acres at least. Folks here are nice so you can always run over to borrow a cup of sugar, but you’re going to want to make a call first,” Margetson laughs. All properties here are single-family Santa Fe-style homes built between the 1980s and 2020s, with Pueblo-style rounded edges, tan stucco exteriors, and flat roofs supported by exposed beams called vigas. Prices range from $1.1 million for three-bedroom homes facing north toward the Badlands to $2.9 million for five-bedroom mansions facing the west. “The views to the north are great for those who like the desert and Rocky Mountains, but looking out west to the Jemez Mountains, you get to see all the green hills around you and the city lights, too,” Margetson says. Undeveloped lots are also for sale in Encantado in the gated Los Caminitos and ungated Vista Redonda communities; prices range from $150,000 for 10 acres in Vista Redonda to $195,000 for 5 acres in Los Caminitos.
The Burning of Zozobra in Downtown Santa Fe
For events and nightlife, Encantado residents can head about 11 miles south to Downtown Santa Fe. Since 1924, the Burning of Zozobra at downtown's Fort Marcy Park has marked the end of the Fiestas de Santa Fe event series, the summer season and the previous year’s woe. Margetson explains, “Zozobra is a puppet around 10 stories high, made of plywood and stuffed with divorce papers and all sorts of things. They bring ‘Old Man Gloom,’ as I call him, to Fort Marcy Park, where crowds of people celebrate as they burn him down.”
Luxury resort restaurants and local markets
"Even though Encantado is a private area, people can find community at Rancho Encantado’s restaurant," says Margetson. "And being connected to the Four Seasons, the food’s quality speaks for itself." The Terra at the Four Seasons blends New Mexican food with global cuisines in dishes like crispy duck confit and roasted poblanos. In neighboring Tesuque, the Tesuque Village Market is a grocery store, bakery, bar and restaurant all in one, and Margetson says it's a favorite among locals. Grocery stores like Market Street and Sprouts Farmers Market can be found at the DeVargas Center, around 10 miles south.
The Tesuque Village Market is a great stop for shopping and dining for Encantado residents.
Sprouts is a perfect stop for organic produce and other groceries near Encantado.

Close to Highway 84 and Downtown Santa Fe
Highway 84 is about 3 miles west of Encantado, and leads about 11 miles south to Downtown Santa Fe. “It really only takes around 10 minutes to reach the Santa Fe Plaza from here," Margetson says. "It’s not so remote that it's terrifying, or feels far away from everything." NM-592 is the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare, and Vista Redonda, Los Caminitos and the Four Seasons Resort all branch from it. CHRISTUS Saint Vincent Regional Hospital is over 12 miles south, and the Santa Fe Regional Airport is just under 20 miles southwest.
