North West City North offers privacy and luxury

North West City North draws affluent buyers seeking privacy and plenty of natural scenery. This area includes Tano Road, a community of luxury Santa Fe-style homes on spacious lots spread across hilly landscapes. Beds of sagebrush, short pine and conifer trees surround these million-dollar homes, which have views of the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains. “That’s the big ticket item — the views,” says Jerome Leyba, broker and owner of Red or Green Properties. “We get a lot of out-of-state buyers from Dallas and from the East Coast, like New York and New Jersey. We’ve had people from the Midwest, like Chicago. A lot of people come out there because they’re trying to escape the big city life.”

Housing is mainly luxury Spanish and Pueblo homes

Homes here are on lots located along a mix of quiet two-lane roads and unpaved paths. Many homes are almost hidden from view, and fencing gives some additional privacy. Homes include high-end Spanish Revivals, Territorial Revivals and Pueblo Revivals on lots that can span 2 to 5 acres. These homes have a mix of flat and tiled roofing and authentic details like adobe siding. “It’s always brown or a warm color,” says Abigail Davidson, a Realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty, about the homes’ exteriors. “That way, our houses blend into the natural environment and don’t stick out.” House and lot size are key cost factors, and homes mostly sell between $1.1 million and $2.5 million. A few homes with footprints of about 4,500 square feet or more go from $2.9 million to $3.5 million.

Hikers and cyclists have access to La Tierra Trails

The community has several access points to La Tierra Trails, a system with over 25 miles of hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding paths. The network includes a section for dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles and has other areas with dirt mounds for mountain bikers who want to sharpen their skills. Golfers may spend time at The Club at Las Campanas, which has two 18-hole, championship-level courses. Those seeking membership in the private club need an invitation.

Nearby Tesuque and downtown Santa Fe have dining options

Downtown Santa Fe and neighboring Tesuque are some of the nearest places for dining out. In a Pueblo Revival building on a quiet corner of Tesuque, El Nido offers gourmet comfort foods with options like pizzas, wagyu burgers and grilled oysters. Santacafe is a Santa Fe staple for fine dining, with its menu including raw elk and Chilean sea bass. The restaurant is in a restored mid-19th-century house, where the artwork includes a sculpture of a sleeping rabbit. “All the great places to eat in Santa Fe are 10 to 15 minutes from you, if not less,” Leyba says. The DeVargas Center is a shopping destination, and its chains include a Sprouts Farmers Market.

Santa Fe district provides an NJROTC program

Depending on where they live, students may start at either Carlos Gilbert Elementary or Gonzales Community School. Carlos Gilbert Elementary gets an A-minus from Niche, while Gonzales Community School receives a C-plus and covers kindergarten to eighth grade. Milagro Middle, which gets a C, is another school covering the area. Students may then finish at Santa Fe High School, which receives a B-plus. The high school’s activities include Naval Junior ROTC, a program that won six state titles between 2016 and 2025.

Traditions include the Burning of Zozobra and historic city festival

Those looking for events and festivities may go to Santa Fe’s annual Burning of Zozobra just before Labor Day. The event’s famous tradition is its burning of a giant and ghoulish marionette representing the past year’s struggles and worries. Afterward, many go to Fiestas de Santa Fe, which has been celebrated since the early 1700s. The September festival celebrates the city’s history, and the activities include several masses, mariachi performances and a massive pet parade that passes by the renowned Cathedral Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi.

Commuters take U.S. 84 to go to downtown Santa Fe

The community has quick access to U.S. Highway 84, which commuters take to go to downtown Santa Fe, about 5 miles south. The community is less than 10 miles north of the Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where services include emergency, surgical and cancer care. For air travel, many can leave from the Santa Fe Regional Airport, about 10 miles south. Located roughly 70 miles south, the Albuquerque International Sunport offers more flight options.
