Santa Fe Estates offers suburban Southwestern living
Santa Fe Estates draws those looking for some space and suburban living while still being close to recreational, shopping and dining spots. “You’ve got great proximity to the highway and to Santa Fe proper,” says Abigail Davidson, a Realtor with Sotheby’s International Realty. “It’s a great lock-up-and-leave kind of situation.” Located on the city’s scenic north end, Santa Fe Estates is a mostly residential neighborhood with condos and some upscale Southwestern-style homes. Its amenities include hiking and walking trails winding across hills covered in short pines and yellow-flowered rabbitbrush. Additionally, the neighborhood is a few miles north of the DeVargas Center mall, where businesses include several restaurants and chain stores, a natural foods grocer and a bowling alley.
Buyers will find condos and plenty of Pueblo Revivals
Many homes here overlook gently winding roads with some sidewalks. While Santa Fe Estates doesn’t offer the same privacy and space as some nearby neighborhoods, lots here still mainly run between half an acre and nearly 2 acres. Single-family homes are mostly Pueblo Revivals with common traits like flat roofs and a mix of earth-tone stucco and adobe exteriors. Several homes under 2,500 square feet sell from $660,000 to $820,000. Larger homes mostly go from about $1 million to $1.5 million. One-bedroom condos can run from $210,000 to $450,000, while units with more rooms sell from $460,000 to $850,000.
Residents are close to a dog park and nature trails
The neighborhood is just north of the Frank S. Ortiz Dog Park. Dog owners can let their pets roam on arroyos and dirt trails that lead to overlooking views of surrounding homes and landscape. Those who often spend time outdoors have quick access to La Tierra Trails, a system made up of over 25 miles of paths. “It is an outdoor place,” Davidson says, describing the area. “People love to get out and hike and keep themselves fit.” In addition to hiking, La Tierra draws mountain bikers and even has designated areas where they can practice their jumps and other skills.
Dining options include Asian fusion, Southwestern fare and fine dining
The neighborhood is within a few miles of several Santa Fe dining destinations. “Santa Fe is really small, and practically everything is within 20 minutes of where you are,” Davidson says. “Everything is just really accessible in this town.” Fans of fusion may go to the Jinja Bar & Bistro, which serves a mix of Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian fare. In a hillside Pueblo building, SkyFire serves fine dining and gourmet comfort foods with options like its beef tartare and bison and pastrami sandwich. The restaurant has a patio where patrons can get views of the hills and dine near the warmth of a kiva fireplace. In Santa Fe’s historic downtown, the Coyote Cafe & Cantina offers authentic Southwestern cuisine in an upscale spot decorated in regional art. The neighborhood is near the DeVargas Center, where Market Street and Sprouts Farmers Market offer grocery shopping options.
Students may attend Santa Fe schools
Students may start school at Carlos Gilbert Elementary, which receives an A-minus from Niche. Others in the area may begin at Gonzales Community School, which gets a C-plus and serves students from kindergarten to eighth grade. The other schools in the area are Milagro Middle and Santa Fe High. Milagro Middle receives a C, while Santa Fe High gets a B-plus. Students interested in a career in the military may join Santa Fe High’s successful Naval Junior ROTC. The program has won six state championships, including one in 2025.
The Burning of Zozobra is an annual tradition
The neighborhood is less than 5 miles west of Fort Marcy Park, which hosts the annual Burning of Zozobra just before Labor Day. Zozobra is a giant, ghoulish marionette set on fire as a sign of putting away the past year’s troubles. Over the years, Zozobra has been stuffed with various papers, including divorce documents. The burning event precedes the Fiestas de Santa Fe, a massive and over 300-year-old tradition.
The neighborhood is a few miles from downtown Santa Fe
The neighborhood is less than 5 miles from downtown Santa Fe. Residents who commute longer distances have direct access to U.S. Highway 84, which goes to Interstate 25, less than 10 miles south. The neighborhood is 6 miles north of Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, where the services include emergency and cancer care. Located just over 10 miles south, the Santa Fe Regional Airport offers commercial flights. However, the neighborhood is about 70 miles north of the Albuquerque International Sunport, which provides more flight options.
