Home to the Santa Barbara County Fair

Near Santa Maria's downtown, on the Central Coast of California, locals gather for events at the Fairpark during the spring and summer in Santa Maria West. "I've been living in Santa Maria for 22 years, and it has been a great experience. There are community events held throughout the year. And within 15 minutes of my house, I can walk my dog in virtually any direction. Additionally, the beach is just a 25-minute drive away," says local Tom Brown, the owner and broker of Tom Brown Real Estate.

Mediterranean influences and a 55 and up community

Santa Maria West contains sidewalks and driveways leading up to attached garages. The region includes a number of homes with Mediterranean and Spanish Mission influences. Many ranch styles have tile rooftops, and many contemporary residences show durable stucco exteriors. There are also several cottages and manufactured homes available. Residences generally list between $475,000 and $625,000 on average, but potential buyers can find a fixer-upper for less. Dwellings inside the La Maria Mobile Home Community, available for residents aged 55 and older, cost between $100,000 and $150,000.

Santa Maria West contains many local eateries in the neighborhood and nearby. Hungry customers order falafel and baba ganoush beneath softly lit pergolas on the outdoor patio of Garden Mediterranean Restaurant. "If you want to eat out, Shaw's Steakhouse and Santa Maria Inn are both good options," Brown says. The Santa Maria Inn is a historic staple where locals enjoy an elegant dining experience paired with Central Coast wines and craft beers.

We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
