Santa Maria West
Mediterranean influences and a 55 and up community
Santa Maria West contains sidewalks and driveways leading up to attached garages. Homes in Santa Maria West are primarily from the 20th century, but houses constructed over the last 20 years are found inside the Cherrywood Estates development. The region includes a number of homes with Mediterranean and Spanish Mission influences. Many ranch styles have tile rooftops, and many contemporary residences show durable stucco exteriors. There are also several cottages and manufactured homes available. Residences generally list between $475,000 and $625,000 on average, but potential buyers can find a fixer-upper for less. Dwellings inside the La Maria Mobile Home Community, available for residents aged 55 and older, cost between $100,000 and $150,000.Local supermarkets and comfortable dining experiences
Residents can order grocery delivery or pick out home goods at Foods Co. grocery store, Target or Walmart Neighborhood Market. Santa Maria West contains many local eateries in the neighborhood and nearby. Hungry customers order falafel and baba ganoush beneath softly lit pergolas on the outdoor patio of Garden Mediterranean Restaurant. "If you want to eat out, Shaw's Steakhouse and Santa Maria Inn are both good options," Brown says. The Santa Maria Inn is a historic staple where locals enjoy an elegant dining experience paired with Central Coast wines and craft beers.
Heading to the fairgrounds or downtown
Locals across the region will visit the neighborhood's Santa Maria Fairpark for the Santa Barbara County Fair held in July. The grounds also host the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival in April. Just north of the community, in the city's center, residents gather during the warmer months. The public event attracts food trucks, local vendors and anyone who enjoys live music.Several schools, two districts
Residents in elementary and middle school attend the Santa Maria-Bonita School District. The school system provides supplemental academic initiatives, such as the After School Program (ASP) and extended day programs. Kindergarten to sixth graders may attend one of the public elementary schools inside of the community. William Laird Adam Elementary receives a C-minus from Niche and David J. Sanchez Elementary has a C grade. El Camino Junior High, which accepts seventh and eighth-grade students, has a C grade from Niche and requires students to wear uniforms. Santa Maria High has a B-minus grade and is a part of the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District.
Quiet picnics and sport programs
Buena Vista Park, originally the Santa Maria Community Park, is the community's first shared green space. Today, the small area contains a playground and barbecue pits. Santa Maria's second-largest public space, known locally as Minami Park, is popular for recreational athletics. The grounds have soccer fields, bocce and tennis courts. The onsite Community Center provides an Open Gym program that offers soccer, volleyball and basketball to locals of all ages.Close to the airport
