Bent Tree Village
Oak trees shade the subdivisions of Bent Tree
Sidewalks line the winding roads of Bent Tree. Palm trees dot front lawns, and colorful gardens thrive in Florida’s tropical climate. “Bent Tree has a large number of live oaks and water oaks, which give the different neighborhoods that ‘Old Florida,’ shaded feel,” Plosica says. Most properties are ranch styles and single-family homes built between the 1970s and early 2000s and boast either Mediterranean influences, like those in Secluded Oaks, or contemporary architecture like that in Bent Tree Village. Colonial influences and traditional architecture are also common. There are some gated communities, including Woodlands II, and 55-and-up residences like Hammocks IV. Prices for a single-family home cost about $300,000 to $600,000, depending on the subdivision. Larger properties, many exceeding 3,000 square feet, can range from $800,000 to over $1 million. Condos typically cost $300,000 to $450,000. Bent Tree receives a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10. According to the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Sarasota has a very high risk of hurricanes and a relatively low chance of flooding. Some properties are within a Special Flood Hazard Area, where flood insurance is recommended for everyone and required by most private and all federal lenders.Lakeview Elementary School is nearby
Sarasota County Schools, which earns an A from Niche and offers school choice, serves Bent Tree. Lakeview Elementary School is less than 1 mile from the neighborhood. Both Lakeview and Sarasota Middle School earn an A from Niche. Sarasota High School receives an A-minus and has several magnet programs, including the Circus Arts program and the Math, Science and Technology (MaST) Research Institute at Sarasota High School. Oak Park School, which is near Lakeview, is a kindergarten through 12th-grade school for students with disabilities.Semi-private golf course and nearby amenities
Bent Tree Country Club made a name for itself as the Sarasota Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) host from 1976 to 1988. In 1978, LPGA Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez won her first tournament at Bent Tree. Today, it is a semi-private course. “If you want to just hit some balls or go get a tee time, you can do that,” Plosica says. Lakeview Park is about 2 miles away. A 20-hole, disc-golf course winds through the shaded park, where oak trees are dripping with Spanish moss. Dogs are required to be on-leash on the walking trails and are allowed off-leash at the dog park. Downtown Sarasota is about 10 miles away, with over 10 theatres, including the Sarasota Opera, art galleries and parks like The Bay. Sarasota County has nearly 35 miles of beaches, including the white, sandy shores of Siesta Key.Bee Ridge Road connects to major thoroughfares
Bee Ridge Road runs along the northern border of Bent Tree and intersects with Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 41, also called Tamiami Trail. Breeze, Sarasota’s public transportation, has a route on Bee Ridge that connects to Downtown Sarasota. Another way that residents get around is golf carts. “It’s not a golf cart community, per se,” Plosica says, “but people drive their kids back and forth to school, and there are several people who take their dogs around with them at the end of the day. People head over to fish in the lakes, too.” Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport is about 15 miles away. The closest hospital is HCA Florida Sarasota Doctors Hospital, about a 3-mile drive.Downtown Sarasota and eateries along Bee Ridge
While Bent Tree is almost entirely residential, countless restaurants and shops are within a few miles. Evie’s Tavern and Grill is on Bee Ridge Road and is attached to a driving range. “Evie’s is a good place to go if you want to work on your swing at the driving range and then grab some food and drinks,” Plosica says. Downtown Sarasota’s eateries range from fine-dining establishments like Selva to the casual, French-inspired C’est La Vie. “You can find any kind of cuisine that you want: vegan, if you have any kind of allergies, they have something for you,” Montei says. The closest grocery store is Publix, about 2 miles away. Fresh produce can be bought at the Sarasota Farmers Market every Saturday morning. “The farmers market downtown is such a fun place to spend a morning,” Plosica says. “There are so many vendors there, selling everything from orchids and handmade soap to empanadas and salsa.” Home Depot and Walmart are about 4 miles away.Residents look forward to citywide events
Sarasota’s reputation as the Cultural Coast of Florida means plenty of events are happening throughout the year. Every April, the Sarasota Film Festival screens over 200 films, from documentaries to features. “We see a lot of independent filmmakers coming into the area for that festival,” says Kelly Harb, vice president of marketing and communications with Visit Sarasota. The Siesta Key Crystal Classic is a sand sculpture competition each November that draws artists from around the world. Tourists and residents alike watch the sculptors’ process and final pieces. “Those festivals and those events – those are what make living here so amazing,” says Plosica, who volunteered at the 2024 Siesta Key Crystal Classic. “So, I love going. I love helping out. I love meeting people from other countries, other states.”
