Indian Beach-Sapphire Shores
Historic homes and bungalows of different sizes and prices
Homes built in the mid-1920s are influenced by Italian, Mediterranean and Moroccan architecture. However, bungalows from the 1950s and 60s are also typical in the neighborhood. “It has a lot of historic charm,” Vigar Says. “Some properties have been taken down, but overall, the neighborhood has done a good job of preserving the historic homes.” On average, lots are just under a quarter of an acre, with palm trees and bushes adorning the front lawns. Most properties have driveways, but not every street in the neighborhood has sidewalks. Houses that are 2,000 square feet and under typically sell for $280,000 to almost $880,000. Homes 2,000 square feet and larger go for between $1 million and $1.4 million. Condos built in 2025 range from around $473,000 to $891,600.Parks, gardens and jungles to explore
Indian Beach Park is an acre of sandy shoreline for launching kayaks and watching the sunset. The Saphire Shores Park walking path curves along the waterfront. In addition to its small playground, the park is notable for its concrete fish sculpture, entitled The One That Got Away, by local artist Charles Meyrick. At the Sarasota Jungle Gardens, visitors can see over 200 animals on 10 acres of tropical grounds. They host a daily jungle bird show and reptile show. “They have probably a hundred flamingos, and you can buy food, and they’ll eat out of your hands,” Vigar says. “If I had little kids, I would definitely get a season pass.” The Ringling has several gardens to explore.Bus stops and little traffic on the Tammiami Trail
The neighborhood is close to U.S. Route 41, which runs from Miami to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Locally known as the Tamiami Trail, the highway has Breeze Transit bus stops. “There is not very much traffic,” Vigar says. “It’s a really well-defined neighborhood with big trees; some are canopied along the roads.” Sarasota Bradenton International Airport is under 5 miles away and can take around 10 minutes in light traffic. The around 55-mile drive to Tampa International Airport takes about an hour without traffic. While there is some walkability to parks and attractions within the neighborhood, it is still considered a car-dependent area that’s fairly bike accessible. Residents may have to evacuate the neighborhood during hurricanes and tropical storm seasons.Universities, magnet schools and private options
Students can attend Emma E. Booker Elementary, which earns a B-minus on Niche. Families can also apply to attend Bay Haven School of Basics Plus, an A-rated K-5 magnet school located in the neighborhood. Booker Middle has a B grade, while Booker High receives an A-minus. BHS has three magnet programs, the Visual & Performing Arts program being the most popular. Sarasota County Schools has controlled open enrollment, but any families choose to send their children to private and charter schools. "Probably only 5% of kids in Indian Beach-Sapphire Shores go to districted schools,” Vigar says. Higher education in the area includes Ringling College of Art and Design, New College of Florida and University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee Campus.Local restaurants and chain stores nearby
