Though there are no sidewalks in Arguello, the quiet streets allow for neighborhood strolls and bike rides. Cul-de-sacs are lined with flowers, trees and manicured shrubs. Some streets are level, though the western part of the neighborhood gets hilly. Single-story homes are common, and styles vary from contemporary to Mediterranean-influenced properties. Typical features include solar panels and multicar garages. Prices range from $3.2 million to $7.8 million; higher-priced properties are generally closer to the Santa Cruz Mountains and have more square footage. Arguello borders another residential Saratoga neighborhood called Blue Hills . One major difference between the two neighborhoods is that Arguello includes properties in the Santa Cruz Mountains, and Blue Hills sits on flat terrain. Additionally, Arguello is the newer neighborhood of the two. “Its development was about a decade later than Blue Hills’. It was built by the same builder,” says EJ Pulpan, a Saratoga native and agent at Christie’s International Real Estate Sereno.

Biking, golfing and hiking the Santa Cruz Mountains
There are several outdoor recreation options within and near Arguello. Locals can bike the Union Pacific Trail, a flat dirt path bordering train tracks that separates the neighborhood from Blue Hills. Beauchamps Park has well-maintained tennis courts and a playground. Saratoga Country Club members can use the club’s lighted pickleball and tennis courts and play in golf tournaments throughout the year. There are several trailheads and nature preserves to explore within the Santa Cruz Mountains. Fremont Older Open Space Preserve welcomes horseback riders, mountain bikers and leashed dogs. “People go hiking on Big Basin trails, on the paths off Highway 9 and to the Saratoga Gap,” Pulpan says. Highway 9 goes up the foothills to Saratoga Gap, a mountain pass where multi-use paths wind past Douglas fir trees. About 15 miles west of the neighborhood and farther into the mountains, Big Basin Redwoods State Park gigantic redwood trees grow in California’s oldest state park.

Saratoga’s top-rated schools
Students may attend Blue Hills Elementary and John F. Kennedy Middle School, which are both rated A-minus on Niche, before advancing to Monta Vista High, rated A-plus. These schools allow inter- and intra-district transfers. The Monta Vista Dance Team won the national championship in 2022 and performs regularly at Bay Area competitions and events. Alternatively, Saint Andrew’s Episcopal School is one of several highly rated private schools in the area. It serves prekindergartners through eighth graders and is rated A on Niche.
