Suburban Neighborhood in Savannah, Georgia
Chatham County 31401
Victorian architecture defines the notable housing
The Victorian influence is prominent among the neighborhood’s collection of established homes, the oldest of which dates to the turn of the 20th century. In fact, one of Cogman’s recent listings is a stick Victorian originally built in 1900. Common in the neighborhood, these residences attract investors looking to rent them out but also make for appealing single-family homes. “It’s ideal for Savannah College of Art & Design students, young professionals or even someone who wants a home of their own,” says Cogman. “Who wouldn’t want to live in a Victorian district?” Victorian-influenced bungalows and traditional Craftsman bungalows highlight the smaller homes, which also include cozy cottage-style and shotgun-style homes. Renovations are common among housing typically priced between the low $300,000s and high $500,000s. “You’ve got a lot of homes that are over 100 years old, and most are going to need some work,” says Cogman. “But people want to be close to downtown, so when you’re buying here, you’re paying not only for a home, but for the lifestyle and the experience of downtown.”Neighborhood community center offers something for everyone
The neighborhood is anchored by the W.W. Law Regional Center, a community gathering place featuring an indoor gymnasium, a public pool and colorful children’s playscapes. The center offers a busy calendar of events and activities, including programs for residents 55 and older, youth sports leagues and an afterschool program. Other recreational options can be found at Mother Matilda Beasley Park, a traditional neighborhood facility that includes a playground, baseball field and a large multi-use green space. Residents also can avail themselves of the amenities at Forsyth Park, a picturesque green space in the neighboring historic district known for its iconic fountain and lush surroundings.Highly rated options for high school students
Younger students can attend nearby Andrea B. Williams Elementary and Hubert Middle, located in the neighborhood. Both are C-minus-rated schools by Niche. A pair of highly rated schools are available to older students. Savannah Early College High is an A-minus-rated school, while Savannah Arts Academy, an A-plus-rated school, provides a public charter option. The latter is a dedicated performing arts institution in a city that also features the Savannah College of Art & Design.
Truman Parkway takes you "wherever you want to go"
Quick and easy access to Truman Parkway, one of the city’s main thoroughfares, is high on the list of conveniences enjoyed by residents of Eastside. “The neighborhood’s beauty is in its proximity,” says David Mesaros, a Realtor with Keller Williams Coastal. “You’re close to downtown, and you can be on Truman Parkway in a minute or two. Once you’re on that, you can go to the river or get to the south side within 10 minutes. When people say centrally located, this is it. Truman Parkway will take you wherever you want to go in the city.”An array of retail and dining options close by
Chu’s is a conveniently located neighborhood market where residents can stock up on essentials, while nearby China Star offers an array of traditional favorites for diners on the go. A concentration of retail and dining options is located along the Harry S Truman Parkway corridor, which can be accessed just east of the neighborhood. Target, Home Depot and Kroger are among the array of available stores, while a collection of surrounding eateries includes soul-food stops such as Geneva’s Famous Chicken and Cornbread Co. and Sisters of the New South.
