Old-fashioned fishing community between Houston and Galveston

Located off Trinity Bay and Clear Lake, Seabrook is a waterside community that makes a splash. Originally founded as a fishing community, Seabrook offers seafood markets and marinas that make use of its bayside location. The residential part of the community is connected by miles of trails and interspersed with large parks and sports complexes. The city has gained popularity with tourists for its proximity to attractions like Kemah Boardwalk and the Johnson Space Center, and permanent residents are willing to brave Seabrook’s unpredictable weather for the community’s excellent schools, waterfront homes and endless scenery.

Miles of trails connect Seabrook’s coast

Over 13 miles of trails connect various parks throughout the city, allowing locals to bike and hike between scenic locations. “The trail system is the best thing about Seabrook. People of all ages are out walking, running, and walking dogs,” says Maggie Pearson, a Realtor with eXP Realty who lived in Seabrook for over 20 years. These trails stretch from the dense woods of Seabrook Wildlife Refuge and Park on Red Bluff Road to the pelican statues that line Pelican Path Park on Anders Avenue. The open water of the bay is dotted with marinas like Seabrook Marina & Shipyard on Shipyard Drive, where locals can park their boats along the shore.

Seabrook residents need to prepare for storms

Due to its location along the water, Seabrook is vulnerable to flooding and tropical storms. Hurricane Nicholas in 2021 severely damaged the fishing pier at Pine Gully Park, which was previously a major attraction and recreation spot. This risk of extreme weather often comes with additional costs for locals. “If you live on the coast, you’re going to pay more for hazard insurance,” Pearson says. “Because it’s on the water, people are worried about flooding, hail and wind storms. Insurance has doubled in some areas.”
