Culturally diverse community in West Seattle
South Delridge, about 7 miles south of Downtown Seattle, brushes up against the area's most elevated vista, with beautiful city sights. Hallmarks of the neighborhood are its distinctive cultural mix and support for small businesses. Indigenous heritage is celebrated, and diversity is at the forefront: There's a variety of religious establishments as well as schools with world language instruction and dual immersion opportunities.
The neighborhood lies north of White Center, which is outside of the city of Seattle's bounds. White Center is known for a diverse collection of eateries and a lively arts and music scene.
Array of businesses on Delridge Way
Delridge Way Southwest features eateries like Nacho Mama's Fry Bread Café, Boss Drive-in for burgers and Young's Restaurant for American, Chinese and Thai cuisine. Can Bar has canned beer, wine and gourmet sandwiches. Businesses include a bicycle shop, consignment store and a bakery, Fresh Flours West Seattle. Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery focuses marginalized communities, has space for events and a gift shop with items by Latinx artists. South of Roxbury Street, an eclectic collection of small businesses along 16th Avenue bring even more life to the area.
For grocery items and specialty goods, residents shop at West Seattle Halal Market, Lee's Produce Market and Mesob Habesha Grocery, a purveyor of Ethiopian products, including fresh injera. Delridge Farmers Market, held on Saturdays from May to October, features locally grown produce from vendors like the Black Farmers Collective, City Fruits and Umoja N'inguvu. There's a focus on cultural traditions and cuisine and the inspiration of the African diaspora.
For everyday retail, chains like Target and QFC supermarket are nearby at Westwood Village shopping center.
Spanish, Vietnamese and Amharic in school
Kids may attend public schools like Roxhill Elementary, graded C-plus by Niche or Highland Park Elementary, graded B-minus.
Denny International Middle, graded B, offers world languages and dual language immersion, has an acclaimed music program and is a Reading Workshop School partnered with Columbia University. At the next level, Chief Sealth International High School, B-plus, has a multilingual department that includes immersive learning in Spanish, Vietnamese, Amharic/Oromo and Somali/Amharic. Van Lang Vietnamese Cultural School is part of the high school. Denny and Chief Sealth share a campus and work together in performing arts and music programs. A leadership course named after a southern Lushootseed word that means "raising hands" is one of the programs related to Native American education.
Houses of worship and faith-based schools
This inclusive area's faith-based establishments include Masjid Al-Furqan, the Muslim American Society of White Center, Seattle Bible Church Ministry, Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Greater Seattle Fil-Am Seventh-Day Adventist Church and Kidane Mihret Eritrean Orthodox Tewhado Church.
Private religious schools include Holy Family Bilingual Catholic School, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic School and St. Bernadette Parish School.
Range of home prices under $1 million
Single-family homes range in price from about $500,000 to $900,000. Early 1900s bungalows, midcentury ranch-style and split-level homes are some of the older housing stock. A 2024 custom-built home of about 1,400 square feet can list at around $700,000. Condos typically hover in the $300,000s, and townhouses, many new and modern-styled, are $400,000 to $730,000.
"You'll typically find homes at lower price points," says Marcel Kluetz, a broker at Queen Anne Real Estate. Kluetz, who has more than ten years of experience, compares South Delridge to neighborhoods farther north, where he says home costs tend to increase.
Outdoor recreations, Lincoln Park's shore
The area is known for its wealth of natural scenery and spots for outdoor recreation. Several community parks are within or adjacent to South Delridge. Nino Cantu Southwest Athletic Complex, Southwest Pool, Southwest Teen Life Center and A.T. Milo Park are in the area just west of 26th Avenue. A couple of miles to the west, the rocky shoreline of Lincoln Park has views of Puget Sound. Locals often cycle over for a day on the beach. West Seattle Golf Course is a few miles to the north. "It's a public course — there are five or six in the whole city — so it gets busy in the summertime," Kluetz says.
Duwamish heritage, Youngstown Cultural Arts
A few miles away in North Delridge, indigenous heritage is honored at Duwamish Longhouse and Cultural Center. It's close to the West Duwamish Greenbelt, which, at 550 acres, is Seattle's largest contiguous forest.
The Youngstown Cultural Arts Center, also in North Delridge, is affiliated with the nonprofit Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association. Affordable live-work spaces for artists and housing units for nearly 700 low-income residents are among DNDA's initiatives. The Arts in Nature Festival, a multiday event in late summer, highlights Duwamish tribe culture and performance, art and wellness activities. The Delridge Community Center is another resource for locals of all ages.
King County Metro Bus, ferry nearby
King County Metro Bus routes include service on 16th Avenue, Delridge Way, Southwest Barton Place and 25th Avenue Southwest. The RapidRide C and H Lines provide rides to Downtown. Those wishing to take the ferry across Puget Sound to Vason or Southworth can embark from Fauntleroy Ferry Terminal, which is a couple of miles west of South Delridge.
Thoroughfares like state Route 99 and 509 are a few miles to the east, the direction to reach Interstate 5, which is on the other side of the Duwamish Waterway. There, too, is the King County International Airport, which is open to small commercial airlines, corporate jets and private planes. For a trip via a major airline, it's less than 10 miles to Sea-Tac, Seattle–Tacoma International Airport.
The area's public transportation options continue to evolve. A light-rail line with Sound Transit, the West Seattle Link Expansion, is expected to open in 2032 in North Delridge.

South Delridge is a neighborhood that is currently becoming more and more built up. New and interesting shops are springing up every day and it's becoming more and more well-known throughout greater Seattle. There still is a lot of work to do what with cleaning it up and ensuring safety, but it is a great up and coming neighborhood.
