One of the highest-rated suburbs in the country
Suburbs are the fastest-growing living areas in the country, balancing convenience and tranquility. “Sellersburg is unique because it is the first truly suburban area of Louisville,” says Adam Hogan, a Realtor of 10 years with Schuler Bauer Real Estate Services. However, he goes on, it’s not just being first that matters – with a top-ranked public school system, nearby jobs, new parks and homes in a tranquil setting, Sellersburg offers a complete package. It continues to grow rapidly as well, with new subdivisions spreading into the nearby countryside, intertwining residential areas with the agricultural farmlands that have been Southern Indiana’s backbone for centuries.

Expansion creates home opportunities from the ground up
The continued growth of Sellersburg means that there is a wide range of homes on the market. These can span from the basic homes built in the National style of the early 1900s to the midcentury ranch-style boom to contemporary homes with hints of traditional and farmhouse architecture. There are plenty of to-be-built opportunities for customization, as well as empty lots where buyers can use their imagination, a fact reflected in the fact that half of the homes in the area have been built in the last 30 years. Neatly laid-out communities are interspersed with active farmland as the town of Sellersburg spreads into the surrounding countryside, where developments continue to sprout amongst cornfields. Three-bedroom ranch styles and bungalows from the mid-1900s and 2000s start around $200,000, ranging up to $500,000 for five-bedroom ranch-style homes. Modern estates and homes with large parcels of land can go for $500,000 to $800,000, with a few select custom builds garnering over $1 million on the market.

Silver Creek Dragons pride
“99 percent of the time people move to Sellersburg, it is for the schools” says Jesse Allen, CEO of AGL Properties who has lived in the Louisville area for years. Niche ranks the schools highly for sports, in the top 10 percent of all school districts in Indiana, and names Silver Creek Senior High as the Best Public High School in Clark County. Silver Creek School Corporation students begin the educational journey at Silver Creek Primary School from preschool to first grade. Silver Creek Elementary School and Silver Creek Middle School score a B grade from Niche. Silver Creek Senior High School provides diverse extracurriculars with 25 clubs and sports and earns a B-plus. For those seeking a private option, St. John Paul II Catholic School offers both an academic and spiritual environment, while Rock Creek Community Academy is a non-denominational charter school.

Plenty of choices nearby, or a nice time out in Jeffersonville
Northside battles Southside for pizzeria supremacy in Sellersburg – Sherrili’s Pizzeria up north and Mazerella's Upper Crust Pizza down south are both family-owned pizza places that have been bringing slices to the residents of Sellersburg for decades. For a sit-down meal of American classics, the Fireside Bar and Grille has been part of Sellersburg since 1985. Starlight Coffee Co., the oldest and only roasting coffee shop in the region, sits right off Route 60 and is the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee on the commute south. According to Samantha Hernandez, Realtor and Team Lead of HDZ Group with RE/MAX First, The Red Yeti in neighboring Jeffersonville is a pretty popular place that draws folks from Sellersburg and across the region for pub grub and weekly concerts, one of many notable spots only a few minutes away. Shopping is concentrated toward the southeastern end of Sellersburg, including the Jay C Food Store, and big box stores and national retailers like Walmart a little further south.

Easy travel in and around the region
Sellersburg is close to the downtown amenities of Jeffersonville and Louisville, a big reason it’s a popular spot for potential homebuyers. The neighborhood has quick access to many roads, such as Route 65 and Highway 311; however, due to the nature of the area, there are few sidewalks for locals to walk on, and biking is generally just for recreation due to the sheer distances. Physicians Medical Center Regional Hospital is 8 miles away, with additional medical care at University of Louisville across the river. Residents are also close to two airports: Clark Regional Airport is 2.5 miles away, and Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is 16 miles away.
Minutes away from sports and play
Silver Creek Township Park is unique among area parks due to its size and amenities, like the multiple baseball diamonds, football field, a playset and dog park. Mosley Park, on the northern side of the neighborhood, has an outdoor pool. Speed Park's large open field includes picnic tables and local art like the brightly colored butterfly mural or fenced sculpture garden. Speed Golf Course, Hidden Creek Golf Club and Covered Bridge Golf Club, developed by golf pro Fuzzy Zoeller, offer opportunities for golfers across skill levels. “Woehrle Athletic Complex was a notable addition to the area,” Hernandez says, and this park hosts local and state-wide tournaments on their grass turf fields. “There’s soccer for all ages, a club plays there and trains kids.”

Festival fun and Thunder in the skies
Sellersburg hosts "Sellersburg Celebrates!" at the end of August, spanning three days and featuring a car show, a 5k run, a pageant and classic festival entertainment for a weekend of fun. Nearby Jeffersonville features Abbey Road on the River, the largest Beatles and classic rock music festival in the world, held Memorial Day weekend in the Big Four Park. Hernandez mentions that Thunder Over Louisville brings out folks from across the region for fireworks, a massive air show and more.

A burgeoning jobs center
While some may focus on Sellersburg as a bedroom community for Louisville, recent years have seen more jobs crop up on the northern banks of the Ohio. Hernandez mentions that Meta has recently signed a contract to develop their upcoming data center just west of the neighborhood. “We have a huge Amazon facility,” she goes on, “and we have a whole commerce corridor down Highway 62, so there’s a myriad of jobs and careers nearby.”
