Mountain living with scenic views near Lake Keowee
Shady Grove is all about wide-open spaces and outdoor recreation. With no shortage of natural beauty, this rural Northwestern South Carolina alcove is bordered by Lake Keowee to the west and the Blue Ridge Mountains to the south. “It’s just stunning,” says Realtor Dana Bodo, who works for Hartland Farm and Home Realty and is selling a home in the area. “There’s so much natural beauty— there are countless waterfalls and hiking trails. As you’re driving, you’ll come up over a rise on the road and see the mountain peaks rising over the trees. It’s just breath-taking.” Though Shady Grove is 30 miles west of Greenville, the nearest city, what it lacks in proximity to metropolitan amenities it makes up for in the serenity of lakeside mountain living.

Shady Grove is comprised of a web of rural roads, with clusters of homes tucked along Lake Keowee and a sprinkling of houses few and far between throughout the rest of the landscape. Most properties have significant acreage and backyards sprawling with pines. Parking is never an issue, as all homes have garages or winding driveways with plenty of space for multiple cars. There are no sidewalks, so cars are needed to get around. In terms of home styles, there are plenty of different options. “The home styles are varied,” says Bodo. “You have everything from mountain log cabins to palatial waterfront homes. There is no particular style. Its diverse mix of homes.” The price range is broad, ranging from $1,500,000- $5,500,000 for lakefront homes with the average sale price being $3,000,000. Homes without lake access tend to go for $400,000- $700,000, with the average home going for $600,000.
