Seymour Township has lakeside homes on Lake Altoona
Seymour Township sits alongside Lake Altoona in western Wisconsin, offering scenic views and a lower cost of living for the area. “There’s a lot to love about Seymour, including larger lot sizes and lower property taxes than surrounding neighborhoods,’’ says Realtor Kelly Dettinger, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty Diversified for more than 10 years. “But I think what really sets Seymour apart is that buyers can create a nice balance here. They can live on a lake, or have a few acres in the country. But they’re still just a mile from Altoona and less than 5 miles from Eau Claire.”
Many of the lake homes in Seymour Township have boathouses and small guest homes on the water.

Lakefront cottages, ranch-style homes and available land
The average sale price in Seymour Township over the last 12 months is $336,013, but house hunters can find ranch-style homes from the 1940s to the 1960s from $180,000 to about $580,000. Price variances are driven by acreage, home condition and location relative to Lake Altoona. Cottages from the 1940s have recently sold from $275,000 to about $300,000. Homes built after 2000 range from about $275,000 to near $500,000.
New-home developments are prompting follow-on retail and commercial growth as well, Dettinger says. “With recently built homes and commercial developments, like the new Costco on Black Avenue and River Prairie Park, we’re seeing more services in Seymour that residents want and need,” he says.
