Year-round outdoor recreation in Trail
Outdoor recreation opportunities are always close by in Trail. “The great Pacific Northwest is at residents’ back door,” Pardee says. In the summertime, Pardee says that popular activities include white-water rafting and trail riding with horses or ATVs. During the winter, Pardee lists snowshoeing and cross country skiing as common recreation activities. Salmon fishing and rafting happen at the Rogue River in the summertime, and people launch their boats and camp at the 33-acre Rogue Elk Park, a forest also featuring playgrounds and picnic areas. Fifteen miles south of Trail is the Eagle Point Golf Course, a nationally recognized, 18-hole course that opened in 1996. It was a one-time winner of the Oregon Golf Course of the Year award from the National Golf Course Owners Association.Custom-built homes on large, private lots
A range of housing and architectural styles can be found in Trail, Pardee says. “Home sizes and quality vary from one door to the next,” she says. “There may be an exclusive home next to a property that could use some help cleaning up.” Secluded ranch-style estates and custom-built homes are common, and mostly range between $550,000 and $900,000. A handful of new builds have sold for north of $1 million. Acreage varies throughout the community; most lots are between 2 and 8 acres, but a few span dozens.Pathways programs at Crater Lake Charter Academy
Students in kindergarten through eighth grade attend Shady Cove School, which receives an overall C-plus rating from Niche. For grades nine through 12, students head to Eagle Point High School, which is rated C-plus and part of the greater Eagle Point School District. Crater Lake Charter Academy is a kindergarten through 12th grade institution where students can enroll in college credits or participate in pathway programs in industries like agriculture, health sciences, business and engineering.Basic groceries and hot meals at Trail Market
Trail Market is a small local convenience store where residents can browse through basic groceries and household necessities. The market has a deli serving fresh tacos, enchiladas and quesadillas, and people drive to Shady Cove for more shopping and dining options. “We actually have a nice business selection in Shady Cove, which is 3 miles away,” Pardee says. “In Shady Cove you’ll find a full-size grocery store and state-of-the-art dental, banking and medical services… there are three motels and a handful of little shops that carry nice gift items.” Everyone knows Phil’s Frosty, which started serving hamburgers and pizza in Shady Cove more than 50 years ago. Locals can also sit down for a meal at Mac’s Diner, a retro 1950s-style restaurant with an outdoor patio overlooking the river and a bright red 1955 Chevrolet convertible out front.Residents rely on cars for transportation
Hilly roads and no sidewalks make Trail a primarily car dependent neighborhood. Crater Lake Highway, or Route 62, is the main thoroughfare traveling through the area; commuters can take this highway to drive south into the communities of Shady Cove, Eagle Point, White City and Medford. The Rogue Valley International Medford Airport is a 34-mile drive south and offers over a dozen direct domestic flights to cities across the western United States. The closest medical center with a 24-hour emergency room is Providence Hospital, approximately 36 miles away.
