A historied town amidst miles of greenery

Incorporated in 1674, the small town of Sherborn is known for its horse farms and high-ranking schools. Located 25 miles west of Boston, Sherborn is ideal for anyone wanting proximity to nature and room to spread out. Along the town's main road, residents can find a number of dining and shopping options, while the streets branching off lead to historic Colonial Revival and Cape Cod homes situated on larger lots. The space in between homes and businesses is filled with a larger number of trails and trees, creating several nature preservations and parks, perfect for hiking, biking, or just sitting down for a nice, quiet picnic. “There is so much open space,” says Susan McPherson, a Realtor with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices who has lived in the community for over 30 years, “If you value being outdoors and outdoor recreation, this is the place to be.”

A neighborhood full of outdoor recreation

About fifty percent of the town is covered by green space, allowing the neighborhood to have a network of trails and parks. With Rocky Narrows as the largest of the group, all trails “interconnect in one way or another,” McPherson says, with hiking, mountain biking, and canoeing options being just a few of the options available just minutes from home. More structured fun can be found around Jameson Fields, home to four baseball diamonds, with a skatepark, playset, and pickleball courts just across the street. “All of the kids go there for Little League,” McPherson says, “when my kids were little, that is where we would go.” Sweet Meadow Farm offers horseback riding lessons and summer camps for equestrian enthusiasts on the neighborhood's northern end. On the neighborhood’s eastern end, sailing, rowing and fishing are abundant at Farm Pond, a kettle lake formed thousands of years ago from a melting New England glacier. Farm Pond is also a popular spot for summer swimming and is staffed with lifeguards from June until August.

Sherborn events and anniversaries

In 2024, Sherborn celebrated its 350th anniversary of incorporation. To celebrate, the community put together a series of events throughout the year, ranging from a parade and “Sherbstock” concert in October to a number of public speakers and an antique car show in May. Even on years without important anniversaries, the town still hosts a number of events, from the Sherborn Memorial Day parade and celebration to the Summer Concert Series on the library lawn.

Taverns and sundaes along South Main Street

Sherborn is home to two ice cream stores, C & L Frosty and Sunshine Farm, which offer sweet treats and patio seating in the warmer months. “Both have been around for a while and are staples in the community,” McPherson says. Fireside Tavern is a brand-new restaurant in the area that few have gotten to try, but “it is opened by a local family, and everyone is very excited to try it out,” McPherson says. The pantry can be restocked daily at the Shaw's in neighboring Ashland. Only four miles from Sherborn, Natick is home to a mall with upscale stores, including Brooks Brothers, Louis Vuitton and Nordstrom.

Historic Colonials and Cape Cods with large lawns

Homes in Sherborn stand on sprawling lots of greenery from local maple trees or gardens started by residents. Views in the area can also differ from looking out onto Main Street to the forest or overlooking Farm Pond. The town is well known for its large historic district full of housing from the 1800s to the early 1900s, leading to many classic styles throughout the neighborhood. Colonial Revival and Cape Cod homes make up much of the neighborhood’s stock, even to the point that McPherson likes to call the neighborhood “the land of colonials.” Homes can start at around $700,000 and grow to larger estates up to $2 million. The neighborhood also earns a CAP Index score of 1/10, much lower than the national average of 4/10.

Clubs and after-school Sherborn activities

Education in Sherborn often begins at Pine Hill Elementary, which receives an A rating on Niche. Students can then move on to Dover-Sherborn Regional Middle School and finish at Dover-Sherborn Regional High School. The high school offers over 50 clubs and activities for students to grow, ranging from the Relay For Life club to the philosophy club. Both the middle and high schools receive an A-plus rating.

Activity along South Main Street

South Main Street is the main avenue in Sherborn, connecting the neighborhood to neighboring towns and larger roads for those looking to get to downtown Boston. Worchester Street and Interstate 90 to the north are the best options for commuters. The neighborhood is very car-friendly, as there are few sidewalks for locals to use. For international trips, Logan International Airport is 29 miles away, and MetroWest Medical Center is 5 miles away.
