Shingle Springs, a neighborhood known for its privacy

Shingle Springs is a rural Sierra Nevada foothills community that attracts homebuyers who enjoy the freedom of its spacious lots and low population density. “People move here because they want to live on ranches, keep animals, ride dirt bikes and even shoot guns. People can do everything they want here,” says Broker Associate and Realtor Samuel Weiner who operates his business, Samuel Weiner Home Selling Team – eXp Realty, in Shingle Springs. The area also offers residents ample retail and dining options along El Dorado Freeway. Locals appreciate the area’s highly rated schools, abundant recreational options and unique access to Red Hawk Resort + Casino.

Contemporary and ranch-style homes

The median home value in Shingle Springs is $525,000, according to Niche. A three-bedroom, two-bathroom early 1980s home built into a hillside is valued at $500,000. A 1970s three-bedroom, two-bathroom contemporary-style home recently sold for $610,000. A three-bedroom, two-bathroom 1980s build with access to walking trails around Quail Lake lists for $750,000. A homebuyer can purchase a four-bedroom, three-bathroom ranch-style home in a gated suburb for $884,000. “People rarely leave. The homes don’t turn over very much,” Weiner says. “The area is very popular for people who want to have a 5-acre piece and have all that land be usable. When you get into the hills, it's very common for most of your land not to be usable because it's on the side of the hill.”

Residents purchase rugged outdoor clothing, leather boots, cowboy hats, pet and livestock supplies and farm goods at Lee’s Feed & Western Store. El Dorado Nursery & Garden sells trees, shrubs and perennials. Extreme motorsports enthusiasts purchase parts and accessories for off-road side-by-side vehicles at a store called Real Light Bar on Big Branch Road. Folks come to Cielo Estate Winery off Ponderosa Road to attend tastings, enjoy rolling hills of vines and oaks and even get married. Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians

As homebuyers observe the community, they will notice that one of its vital elements is the Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians. The federally recognized tribe is based in Shingle Springs Rancheria and is governed by its own council and court. Tribal police officers enforce its laws, and the tribe has a fire department as well. The tribe’s education center provides tutoring and after-school programs. Residents also have access to assistance services that help with things like childcare, parenting skills classes, vocational training, transportation and career development. Although the tribe has an independent government, its people are still a fundamental element of the broader Shingle Springs community. For example, the tribe contributes to the county food bank and invites locals to community days to meet tribal artists and learn about indigenous culture. Enrollment in the tribe is open to biological lineal descendants who are 4 years old or younger.
