Lake Judy offers privacy, pristine views and two updated parks
Neighborhoods in the city of Shoreview encompass a nearly 12 square-mile area from Mounds View south to Little Canada. Shoreview includes about six lakes and several creeks and ponds. Lake Judy, one of the smallest lakes in Shoreview, is also the name of the small suburban neighborhood of about 600 midcentury homes at the south end of Shoreview. The neighborhood encircles the 16-acre lake, its adjacent park, and surrounding wetlands.
“I grew up in this area, which is right between the cities of Shoreview and Roseville,” says Ray Stenger, Realtor with Keller Williams Classic Realty, “It was the place to live in the 1960s and '70s if you wanted to be close to the Twin Cities. There are lakes in every direction and great schools. And over the years the shopping and dining scene has really boomed, so you don’t have to travel far to get what you want. Now, I sell homes here and I can tell you, it’s just as desirable.”
The namesake of the neighborhood, Lake Judy is a small lake with an island.
Bobby Theisen Park is located just south of Island Lake.

Midcentury homes with a variety of personal touches
Homes in Lake Judy are mostly all midcentury modern, including ranch-style and split-level homes. Larger and newer homes from the 1980s and 90s have attached garages, while the oldest homes built in the 1940s and 1950s often have detached garages. Streetscapes feature mature maple, oak and fir trees, and no sidewalks. A few of the newer streets may have cul du sacs. While homes are of a certain era, Lake Judy stands out because each home has its own look. Even streets with several homes of the same style look unique thanks to paint colors, a mixture of building materials and additions added over the years. Ranch-style homes range from $300,000 to $470,000. Many have large bay windows, enclosed sunporches and finished basements. Split-level homes that feature stone walkways, new windows, and professional landscaping range from $400,000 to $570,000.
Many homes in Lake Judy are set back from the road.

Lake Judy Park and Bobby Theisen Park offer updated amenities
Lake Judy Park offers views of the north edge of the lake and welcomes visitors to its playground, half-mile paved walking path, picnic shelter and half-basketball court. The city of Shoreview offers outdoor skating at seven nearby rinks, including Shoreview Commons. With a commitment to upgrade city parks, Minneapolis Parks and Recreation, as well as Shoreview Parks and Recreation, have committed to a significant redevelopment of Bobby Theisen Park on Vivian Avenue. Two new park buildings will be constructed to provide meeting rooms and warming space in winter. A new playground and pickleball court, an expanded parking lot and an updated ice rink will complete the updates expected to open around mid-2025.
“Smaller lakes like Lake Judy and Lake Wabasso are generally only used by people who live in the neighborhood,” says Stenger. “They’ll fish on them in the summer and skate and ice-fish in the winter. And if they want larger or more organized recreation, there are skating rinks in the city, too.”
Lake Judy Park is located on the shores of Lake Judy.
Bobby Theisen Park features many amenities and plenty of green space.
