Silver Springs Shores offers diverse neighborhood options
Most of Silver Springs Shores is surrounded by nature, including Silver Springs State Park and Ocklawaha Prairie Restoration Center. However, this Ocala community is anything but rural, offering its nearly 25,000 residents an eclectic mix of subdivisions. “There are cute little suburban neighborhoods, there are big, beautiful houses that are basically out in the boonies, there’s a gated golf course community. It’s really diverse,” says Peggy Pittas, a real estate agent with RE/MAX Allstars Realty who sells throughout Ocala, Summerfield, Dunnellon, Belleview, and Anthony.
Many housing options, from townhouses to estates
The community is broken into residential subdivisions, with quiet streets lined with single-family homes and grassy lawns dotted with mature trees. Most homes are ranch-style or New Traditional, with two or three bedrooms. The median price is $270,000. Larger homes on the community’s west side range from $700,000 to $1.3 million and sit on acre lots. In the gated Lake Diamond neighborhood, homes typically feature pools, golf course views and two-car garages with space for golf carts.
Condos are available, mainly on the community’s east side, and range from around $90,000 for a one-bedroom to $195,000 for a two- or three-bedroom. A series of newly built three-bedroom townhouses is cropping up on the community’s northwest side, ranging from around $220,000 to $280,000. Buyers can also find land, ranging from about $20,000 for a quarter acre to $2.4 million for 34 acres.
Children attend Marion County Public Schools
The schools zoned to the community are Emerald Shores Elementary, which rates a B-minus on Niche; Lake Weir Middle, which rates a C-plus; and Lake Weir High, which also rates a C-plus. Lake Weir High partners with the College of Central Florida in a student dual enrollment program. Families can send their children anywhere within Marion County Public Schools, as the district offers School Choice.
Residents have access to kayaking, golfing, and more
Silver Springs State Park is about 8 miles away. While it’s a large tourist destination, locals often visit for kayaking in the clear water and walking along the nature trails. Baseline Trailhead Park also features walking trails and a playground. Smaller parks feature amenities like picnic pavilions and ball fields. Golfers can tee off at two public courses: The Country Club of Silver Springs Shores or Lake Diamond Golf & Country Club. The Silver Spring Shores Community Center offers a pool, tennis courts and an indoor fitness center.
Convenient amenities near Southeast Maricamp Road
Southeast Maricamp Road, the community's main thoroughfare, features many big-box stores and restaurants. One local favorite is Cristina’s Subs and Suds, a laid-back spot that serves sandwiches, salads and Italian classics. Heather Island shopping center sits just off Maricamp Road and has a Publix, as well as restaurants and services. Walmart Supercenter and Aldi are close by. The nearest hospital is HCA Florida Ocala, about 10 miles from the community.
The city’s equestrian events draw global competitors
Ocala is nicknamed “The Horse Capital of the World” and features many regular equestrian-themed events. Two standouts are the AdventHealth Grandview Invitational, the state’s largest draft horse show, and the Longines League of Nations, where riders from across the globe compete at the World Equestrian Center, about 20 miles away.
Getting around Ocala and staying safe during storms
Silver Spring Shores is about 10 miles from Ocala's historic downtown. Ocala International Airport is about 15 miles away.
Silver Springs Shores is in Central Florida, which is vulnerable to hurricanes. The county has multiple online resources to help residents prepare before severe storms. As storms occur, the county also has an emergency information phone number residents can call to stay updated.
