Stone State Park has over 1,000 acres for outdoor activities
Stone State Park has over 15 miles of hiking and biking trails spread over 1,000 acres of woodlands and hills. Campers are frequent guests, settling in tents and RVs at any of the 38 sites available. Nature lovers and photographers come hoping to glimpse turkeys, owls, deer and red foxes. The Dorothy Pecaut Nature Center has nature exhibits, butterfly gardens and an outdoor amphitheater for classes and presentations. As a result, it's a popular spot for families and class field trips. "Dorothy Pecaut is the kid-friendly version of Stone Park," says Pfaffle. Further south is the Sioux City State Prairie Preserve, which is dedicated to safeguarding the area's natural tallgrass prairie environment. At around 150 acres, the Nature Conservancy considers it the largest urban-set native prairie in the country.

Sioux City's Teacher of the Year works at West High School
Students can begin at Perry Creek Elementary School, which has a B grade from Niche, before attending West Middle School, which has a C. Older students will enroll at West High School, which has a B-minus. One of the high school's teachers was recently named the Sioux City Community School District Teacher of the Year. Briar Cliff University is just outside the neighborhood. A private Catholic university, the school enrolls over 1,100 students yearly in healthcare administration, environmental science and photography programs.
