Suburban living meets convenience in Heather Ridge

Heather Ridge is a suburban neighborhood of Sioux Falls, adjacent to Prairie Green Golf Course and about 5 miles south of the city’s downtown district. “Southeast Sioux Falls is a desired area in general,” says Realtor Melanie Schreiber with Amy Stockberger Real Estate, who has sold in the city for over five years. “It’s a higher price point, and people like the convenience of nice, quality homes, right near the golf course.” It sits at the edge of town, where the developed landscape gives way to open fields, farms and vast, flat plains. Though it feels secluded from the urban part of the city, residents have access to big-box shopping, restaurants and South Dakota Highway 115 without leaving the neighborhood.

Contemporary ranch-style houses dominate the market

Heather Ridge is a typical suburban neighborhood, where sidewalks trace the edges of modest front lawns, and garages keep parked cars out of the streets. Residents bike and jog in the road, and properties often have a basketball hoops in the driveway. Homes tend to feature ranch-style architecture with New Traditional influences, like extra gables and vinyl siding, paired with stone. “It’s a nice development without cookie-cutter homes,” Schreiber says. Most sell between about $270,000 and $780,000. The CAP Index Crime Score is also 2 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4.

Outdoor activities along the Big Sioux River and on the golf course

Heather Ridge is within 4 miles of numerous golf courses and some of the largest outdoor spaces in the city. Prairie Green Golf Course is just outside the neighborhood, and Bakker Crossing is 4 miles away. Both courses are open to the public. The Big Sioux River flows through a series of parks, including Sertoma Park, home to the Butterfly House & Aquarium, a shelter with picnic tables and trails for hiking and Nordic skiing. Spencer Park has a disc golf course and dog park, and Yankton Trail Park features a variety of athletic fields. Cyclists ride the Sioux Falls Bike Trail, which follows along the river.

Harrisburg School District has A-rated teachers and sports program

Most children begin their education at Journey Elementary, which earns a B rating from Niche. North Middle School scores an A-minus, and Harrisburg High gets a B-plus. Students can participate in a variety of activities, from marching band and drama club to competitive dance and football. Harrisburg School District supports open enrollment and out-of-district transfers.

Quick access to big-box stores and local pubs

Busy roads, like South Dakota Highway 115 and Western Avenue, provide quick access to restaurants and big-box shopping. Residents can get to Walmart and Aldi without leaving the neighborhood. A 4-mile drive into the city leads to additional options, like Target, Hy-Vee and The Empire Mall. Restaurants in Heather Ridge include Tinner’s Public House, a popular spot to grab a beer and watch sports, and McNalley’s Irish Pub, another casual bar with the occasional live band.

Access to one of the city’s main highways and health care nearby

South Dakota Highway 115 cuts through the eastern side of Heather Ridge and leads to downtown Sioux Falls, about 5 miles away. It also connects with Interstate 229, 3 miles away. Sioux Falls Regional Airport is 11 miles north, and health care is available at McKennan Hospital and the Sanford USD Medical Center, both within a 5-mile radius.
