Helping those in need
Unity Gardens is a non-profit organization that provides freshly grown produce to those in need. The organization's mission is to improve community health by increasing the accessibility of fruits and vegetables and providing education on nutrition and food preparation. Volunteers and staff plant and care for the gardens, and folks from the community are invited to come out to harvest. "The garden is open to everyone, and we don't require proof of economic status," Steward says. "This is a uniquely dignified way to provide for the disadvantaged," says Sara Stewart, founder and CEO of Unity Gardens.
