South Coventry offers bucolic living among acres of open farmland and rolling hills in northern Chester County. “It’s a pretty rural township; there are only 2600 people in the town,” says Amanda Shaner, administrator of the South Coventry Township. The community is anchored by a commercial center along Pennsylvania Routes 100 and 23 – locally known as Pottstown Pike and Ridge Road. Between the local farms and dense woodlands, residents will find mom-and-pop shops selling everything from fresh produce to craft beers and homegrown wines. The thoroughfares also provide easy access to the hustle and bustle of Philadelphia, which is about a 40-mile drive southeast.

Single-family homes with spacious lots
Residential streets wind through the countryside. Single-family homes are tucked away on tree-lined lots that average just over an acre of land. Long driveways lead to Colonial Revival, Cape Cod and ranch-style homes built from the mid-1900s through the early 2020s. Most homes embrace alfresco living with spacious patios, screened-in porches and in-ground pools. Prices for single-family homes range from around $215,000 for a two-bedroom ranch-style home to about $750,000 for a four-bedroom Colonial Revival. In the center of town is Bucktown Crossing, an active adult community with condos ranging from around $230,000 for a one-bedroom unit to $310,000 for a two-bedroom unit.

Country-style eateries, breweries and wineries
A commercial corridor sits in the town center at the intersection of Pennsylvania Routes 100 and 23. “We have about five to seven restaurants with pizzas and subs, things like that,” Shaner says. Ridge is an old-fashioned diner with retro bar stools and a long menu of comfort foods, while Pudges Steaks and Hoagies Coventry is known for its award-winning cheesesteaks. Further west down the winding country roads is La Maison, an upscale French restaurant where Chef Martin Gagné and his wife Janet invite guests into their home each Friday and Saturday for an intimate seven-course dinner. South Coventry boasts a variety of local flavors, with craft beers on tap at Hares Hill Brewing Co. and hand-crafted wines served in the rustic tasting room at Stone Barn Cellars Winery. Red Dog Market sells farm-fresh groceries sourced from local growers, and Giant is about 4 miles north on Pennsylvania Route 100.
