Buyers might find a four-bedroom, two-bathroom Colonial Revival that backs right up to Spring Lake Park, the borough's largest park, for around $400,000; a mid-size renovated split-level for about $600,000; or a five-bedroom Colonial Revival for close to $800,000. There are also condominium complexes like Traditions which has an outdoor pool, tennis courts and a gym. The median housing price falls around $525,000, which is above the national median. "The taxes in South Plainfield are considered some of the lowest in the county of Middlesex. Even if they don't feel low, they are low," Lacerda says.

Roughly 40 miles from Midtown Manhattan, many New Yorkers now call South Plainfield home, realizing they can get more bang for their buck and easily commute into the city. With its central location, South Plainfield residents can easily travel to the Jersey Shore, New York City and Pennsylvania, Lacerda says, "Everything is in easy reach. All the major highways are close to South Plainfield."
Curling, puppy play and tennis
For those who watch the Winter Olympics and want to try curling, South Plainfield is a perfect location. A nonprofit organization, the Plainfield Curling Club, the only dedicated curling facility in New Jersey, happens to be in South Plainfield. The club has multiple leagues for ages from eight to 100 and beyond.
There are also several outdoor recreation spaces within the borough, and Spring Lake Park is by far the largest, covering nearly 130 acres. Residents can fish, ride their bikes and play sports at the park. Dog owners can visit the community's Southside Dog Park. In the summer, the South Plainfield Community Pool opens their Olympic-sized pool. Younger visitors can cool off in the splash pad, and the facility also has a picnic area and waterslides. The South Plainfield Recreation Center hosts many community activities like pickleball, summer camps and cheerleading.
