Residential charm and great location
North Spokane’s Town and Country is a low-key residential community conveniently located next to Division Street, which serves as the area’s main arterial road and commercial hub. Known for its quiet streets and convenient location, the area offers residents easy access to North Spokane retailers and easy commuting to Downtown Spokane. “In a sense, there’s not that much to say about the neighborhood, but I mean that in a good way,” says Mike Bass, managing broker of Century 21 Beutler & Associates and lifelong Spokane resident. “It’s a quiet residential neighborhood, it’s close to shopping on Division Street and Francis Avenue, and it’s easy to get to both Downtown Spokane and the outdoor areas north of town.”
Suburban homes
Mid-to-late 20th-century ranch-style homes and split-levels make up the majority of the neighborhood’s housing stock. The neighborhood is also one of the few parts of the city proper where it’s still easy to find empty parcels to build a custom home on. Most of the neighborhood has been around for a while, though, and manicured lawns and towering pines are common. Homes in Town and Country typically sell for between $350,000 and $500,000, though some more modern properties can go for quite a bit more than that.
North Central High's triennial musical
Public schools in the area are overseen by the Spokane Public Schools District. Linwood Elementary has a C-plus on Niche, while Salk Middle School has a B-minus. North Central High School has an A-minus rating and is known for its triennial student-run musical “The Doll Shop,” which has been re-written and performed by students every three years since 1930.
Close to Little Spokane River
Outdoor space within the neighborhood itself is a bit limited, though Linwood Park on the west side does feature a few short walking trails, a playing field and a playground. That said, the neighborhood is within a short drive of tons of outdoor spaces on the north side of town, including the 1,300 Little Spokane River Natural Area, which has a number of hiking trails and impressive bluff side views, and the highly rated Kalispell Golf and Country Club.
Division Street shops and restaurants
While the neighborhood is mostly made up of residential blocks, the thoroughfares along its borders are lined with retail and restaurants. “The residential part of the neighborhood is pretty quiet; you don’t see a whole lot of traffic,” says Realtor Chelse McFarland of the Prime Real Estate Group. “But just around the corner you’ve got tons of shopping and dining along Division Street and Francis Avenue, so you don’t have to go far to get everything you need.” Along Division Street, residents have easy access to a movie theater, big box stores, grocery stores and restaurants like highly-rated diner Old European, which is known for its impressive breakfasts.
Easy commuting to Downtown Spokane
The neighborhood is bordered by North Division Street and West Francis Avenue, which are key arterial routes connecting the neighborhood to other north and central Spokane neighborhoods These roads are also served by multiple bus lines operated by the Spokane Transit Authority, ensuring residents have reliable public transportation options to downtown Spokane and other districts. It’s roughly 11 miles from the neighborhood to Spokane International Airport, which offers direct flights to over 30 locations in North America.
Events
While there aren’t a whole lot of events in Town and Country itself, the neighborhood is just 5 miles north of Downtown Spokane, where locals can enjoy a number of annual festivals, including the annual Pig Out in the Park festival at Riverfront Park.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
