Dense forests and farmland surround the growing Fayetteville suburb of Spout Springs. This Harnett County community of about 11,000 people sits less than 20 miles north of the United States' largest military base, Fort Bragg, making it a popular choice for military families and retirees. “You get here, and you get stuck,” says Andrea Williams, a Realtor with eXp Realty who moved in from Fayetteville more than five years ago. “It started as a vacation home and it became our permanent residence,” says Williams, who adds that the ruralness of Spout Springs gives it a small-town feel. It’s mostly residential. “We have some stores, a few restaurants and close-knit families.” Along with Fort Bragg, Cape Fear Valley Medical Center is another large employer.

Trees hug the New Traditional and ranch-style homes resting between lakes and a golf course in the gated Carolina Lakes neighborhood. Other subdivisions feature Craftsman and Modern Transitional designs on spacious grassy lots. Williams says that while flooding is not an issue in Spout Springs, potential homebuyers should know that the community is teeming with wildlife. “Eagles are common in our area. It’s heavily populated with deer. I have had 18 deer in my backyard at one time. Come spring, we see beavers at the dam.”

From a private golf club to animal adventures at Aloha Safari Park
Parks in Spout Springs are mostly small neighborhood playgrounds. The Carolina Lakes community has seven lakes with sandy beaches and a small marina. A disc golf course, sports courts and an outdoor pool flank the neighborhood's clubhouse. Williams says Edward Mendoza Municipal Park, outside Fayetteville, is a busy summer spot for youth soccer and baseball leagues. Tall pines shade the hiking trails at the nearby Carvers Creek State Park. Aloha Safari Park is a popular weekend outing for families around the region. “You get to know the animals. All of them are rescues. It’s so fun to see the kids feed the giraffe and take in its size,” Williams says. Area farms offer pumpkin patches in the fall and strawberry picking in the early summer.
