Located 5,446 feet above sea level between the Ruby Mountains and the Elko Hills, Spring Creek, Nevada is a quiet, unincorporated town with a rural feel. “People mostly come here for the country setting and the acreage, because there is still a lot of good land out here,” says Kathy Polkonghorne of Coldwell Banker, who has nearly a decade of experience in the area. “It’s mostly families here who work in Elko but want some space and a place where they can easily park an RV or a few dirt bikes.” Spring Creek sits 14 miles east of Elko, known for its robust gold mining and medical industries. While Spring Creek is unincorporated, the Spring Creek Association organizes events and keeps the community looking nice throughout the year.

Homes on large lots in Spring Creek
The median price for a single-family home in Spring Creek is $400,000. “Typically, you’re getting at least an acre with your home,” says Polkonghorne. “But there are some more congested areas as Spring Creek fills up.” Houses typically sit on large lots off quiet roads; most homes are over 1,800 square feet with multicar garages. Many single-family homes were built in the 21st century, and larger homes with greater acreage on the outskirts of town have a higher price tag. Because it’s an unincorporated community, Spring Creek homes are on a septic system. The area has manufactured home parks located on the northern edge of town.

Fishing at Spring Creek Marina
There’s no shortage of outdoor recreation in Spring Creek. “If you live in Spring Creek, you’re going to have plenty to do outside, especially in the summer,” says Polkonghornre. “The area has its own golf course and marina, which has a really nice walking loop.” The marina is stocked year-round with fish, and non-motorized boats are allowed on the water. The Spring Creek Sports Complex has four baseball diamonds and multiple football and soccer fields for youth sporting events. Locals can bring their horses to Horse Palace, an indoor arena for riding and lessons; the facility also has miles of trails around the building for outdoor riding. Hikers go 15 miles east to the Ruby Mountains to hike the Verdi Peak Trail. The Spring Creek Association puts on events throughout the year, ranging from the Christmas Cheermeister Home Decorating Contest to Family Movie Nights at the Marina.

Dining in Elko
While Spring Creek has an active outdoor scene, the town doesn’t have much in the way of shopping and dining. “It’s pretty much limited to grocery stores and hardware stores,” says Polkonghorne. “There are a few restaurants in the area, but for the most part, if people want to have a night out, they head to Elko.” Most of Spring Creek’s restaurants serve American bar fare, but the town also has Chinese and Mexican restaurants. There are coffee shops and bars with live music. Elko has dozens of options 15 miles down the road.

Kids attend Spring Creek Middle School and Spring Creek High; the high school offers dual enrollment with Great Basic College and career and technical education programs.
