Quiet neighborhood close to parks and attractions

About 3 miles east of downtown, Bingham offers a leafy, suburban setting in the city while just a short distance from some of Springfield's top attractions. "It's a very quiet neighborhood," says Carter Cook, a local Realtor with eXp Realty. "There's a good mix of people who have been there for a while and first-time homebuyers." Cook adds that the neighborhood is a big draw because of its affordability, as the median sale price for a single-family home is $55,000 less than Springfield's median of $200,000. The suburban residential streets are surrounded by busy thoroughfares, like Glenstone Avenue, where a giant water tower stands out among the many stores and restaurants. Residents also have easy access to attractions like parks and minor league baseball games, while also having a quiet community to retreat to at the end of each day.

A mix of national chain and local restaurants can be found on Glenstone Avenue on the west side of the neighborhood. George's Family Restaurant offers a homey vibe and is known for its classic breakfast food. Casper's Diner is another hot spot, serving its famous chili since 1909, while currently decked out in 1970s décor. Locals also enjoy dining at Ichiban Buffett, an all-you-can-eat restaurant serving Japanese and Chinese dishes, including the local favorite Springfield Cashew Chicken. Local grocery stores include a Costco, Walmart Neighborhood Market and Leslie's Mexican Supermarket, which sells and serves authentic Mexican food.

The park features a playground, outdoor basketball courts and a challenging disc golf course. The park is also home to the Cooper Tennis Complex, which includes several indoor and outdoor courts. Midcentury homes in the middle of Springfield

Bingham is home to quiet, tree-lined neighborhood streets dotted with ranch-style houses. Cook says most of the homes have been around a while. "There's mostly three-bedroom, two-bathroom homes in the area. They're mostly from the 1960s and 1970s, nothing super modern," he says. Houses have a mix of brick, stone and wood exteriors and often have built-in garages. Many are built about 5 to 10 feet from each other on similar quarter-acre lots with lots of trees and fenced-in backyards. Most streets have sidewalks, giving residents walkable space to stroll through the neighborhood. Three-bedroom homes typically sell between $135,000 and $250,000. Four-bedroom homes are rare but can cost between $250,000 and $300,000.

Convenient access to Springfield schools

A majority of students attend Bingham Elementary School, which gets a B-minus grade from Niche and is located right in the neighborhood. They'll go on to Hickory Hills K-8 School, which also receives a B-minus, but is about 5 miles away in the more rural area of Greene County. Most students will finish their degrees at Glendale High, which gets a B grade. However, some who live in the northwest section of Bingham attend Central High, which gets an A-minus grade and is ranked the best public high school in Springfield. The high school offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, along with Missouri's A+ Scholarship Program, where qualified high schoolers can earn free college tuition by tutoring younger students.
