Bradford Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Springfield, Missouri
Greene County 65804
Brick ranches with spacious yards
Some residents rent apartments in the numerous complexes throughout the neighborhood. Others live in the Ozark Highlands mobile home park, which has properties priced between $80,000 and $120,000. Single-family options sit along Bradford Park’s residential streets, which are lined with mature trees — ranches from the 1970s and 80s with brick and stone facades cost between $200,000 and $400,000.Picnic or walk around Schaible Lake Park
Situated next to CoxHealth Medical Center South is Schaible Lake Park, which features a paved loop for relaxing walks by the water. Residents can often spot ducks and geese swimming, and they can take a snack to one of the park’s picnic tables to enjoy a peaceful moment near the lake. Just south of the park, joggers and bikers can pick up the Ward Branch Greenway Trail, which winds southwest, following the Ward Branch of the James River.Career prep begins at Glendale High
Kids may begin at Cowden Elementary, which has a B-minus rating from Niche. Students progress to B-rated Pershing Middle and B-rated Glendale High, where they can enroll in college and career academies. High school students can prepare for future careers in construction trades, legal studies, engineering, health sciences and more.Support local vendors at the Greater Springfield Farmers Market
Bradford Park is a dynamic neighborhood that allows residents to stay connected to the city’s happenings. “Kids have an opportunity to jump into the community by playing sports or getting involved with gaming or coding clubs,” Hunsaker-Williams says. She continues, “There’s always something going on. We have Hammons Hall, which brings Broadway productions, and the Ozark Empire Fair.” More regularly, locals can start their weekends on a refreshing note at the Greater Springfield Farmers Market, a year-round market that requires vendors to have personally grown or made the products they are selling. The market’s large selection of vendors allows residents to shop for baked bread, native plants for their gardens and fresh meat and produce.Medical providers have a short commute
Bus stops operated by the City Utilities Transit Department are throughout the neighborhood, but the area is largely car-dependent. Residents working at the nearby hospitals have a short commute, but those working downtown drive 5 miles north on South National Avenue. To the south, they can merge onto U.S. Route 60 to travel throughout the greater Springfield area.Reliable chains and local eateries frame Bradford Park
“When people think of the Midwest, they think of cows and pastures. We have some of that, but we also have everything a city has. We have nightlife and theaters and lots of restaurants,” Hunsaker-Williams says. The neighborhood’s commercial corridors are packed with reliable chain restaurants and big box stores, like Home Depot, Walmart and Target. Residents can shop for groceries at Target, or they can stop by Natural Grocers for organic produce. There are also a few local favorites where residents can grab a bite — they can get their day going with a cinnamon roll from Neighbor's Mill Bakery & Café and return to enjoy a salad and sandwich for lunch. For dinner, McSalty’s Pizza Café is a family-owned pizzeria where locals can share a pie in a cozy, rustic environment. Laidback Friday nights call for rounds of beer, nachos and pool matches at the Skybox Grill and Lounge.Residential spaces remain peaceful in Bradford Park
CoxHealth Medical Center South serves as the southern anchor of the Medical Mile, which extends up National Avenue to Mercy Hospital Springfield. The hospital systems are Springfield’s two biggest employers, with 21,000 workers between them. Though the medical and commercial corridors are a flurry of activity, the residential spaces are insulated from the bustle. “It’s a quiet neighborhood. There might be a helicopter going out of Cox, but it’s not really a consideration to those living there,” says Hunsaker-Williams.
