Parkcrest has dining and recreation right nearby

Debbie Morrow, an experienced Realtor with Murney Associates, sold her first home in the Parkcrest neighborhood. From the time she saw the area, Morrow has been in love with the wide streets and trees that turn pink and white each year. “The neighborhood is delightful in the spring with all the redbud and dogwood trees in bloom, and almost every yard has one. In the fall, it is so beautiful with the turning of the trees,” Morrow says. Locals visit Sanford Park when they want to get out of the house, and shopping and dining spots line the nearby South Campbell Avenue. The neighborhood also sits 5 miles south of Downtown Springfield, making it easy for drivers to commute into the city. Future Parkcrest residents will find spacious homes with convenient recreation and entertainment spots nearby. “I think every neighborhood should be like Parkcrest,” Morrow says.

Burgers at Bair's and ramen at Karai's

For a bite or a beer, locals pop into Bair’s All-American Sports Grill and can choose from 35 kinds of burgers with a wide range of available toppings. “Bair’s is a fun spot to get a great burger or visit the bar next door,” Morrow says. The Pineapple Whip sits off West Battlefield Road and sees a crowd when they open every March. Customers can order refreshing soft serve, and the flavors rotate to give customers chances to try as many flavors as possible. In addition to having popular chain restaurants, locals can also dine at Karai Ramen + Handroll for Japanese dishes or Krackin Cajun Seafood House for staple southern dishes like gumbo and spicy crab meals.

When homeowners need to stock up their pantries, they visit the Walmart Neighborhood Market, Sam’s Club, or Hy-Vee Grocery Store. South Campbell Street also features specialized shops like Seoul Oriental Market and the Filipino Market. If locals want to walk around and shop, they can visit the Battlefield Mall, less than 5 miles away from the neighborhood.

The South Kansas Expressway takes commuters to Downtown Springfield and connects to U.S. Route 60. Those who prefer public transportation can catch a CU Transit bus at one of the stops along South Cambell Avenue.

Spacious ranch homes among wide streets

Three-bedroom ranch homes with large yards fill most of the Parkcrest neighborhood. Most residents own their homes, but some residents might rent an apartment or townhouse. Future homeowners can expect to pay between $150,000 and $500,000 for a home with an attached garage, spacious yard and paved driveway. “The homes were built in the ‘60s and ‘70s, but they’ve been renovated two, three or even four times since then,” Morrow says. Morrow also mentions the three-bedroom homes here can have more square footage than those in other Springfield neighborhoods because of when they were built. The streets are also wider, and tall trees shade the homes.

Hanging out at Sanford Park

Locals in Parkcrest like to get out and get some fresh air. “There’s not a day that goes by that you don't see someone taking a walk with their kids or dogs,” Morrow says. Residents might walk or bike along the paved trails that wind around the open grassy area at Sanford Park. Parents also let their kids climb around the playground equipment near the covered picnic tables. Residents in the south half of the neighborhood can park in the lot off South Franklin Avenue, but those who live closer to the park can walk over from their homes. For picture-perfect views in the spring, locals spend the day at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park. Visitors of all ages can walk through cultivated gardens, a butterfly house or the historic Gray/Campbell Farmstead.
