Prime location in the heart of Springfield’s biggest industries
For locals looking to be in the heart of Springfield and near all its major employers and attractions, look no further than Seminole Holland. This small neighborhood is within 2 miles of Mercy Hospital and Missouri State University, two major employers for the entire city. In addition to being a short drive – or bike ride – to work, residents of Seminole Holland are also close to many of the area’s beloved attractions, including the scenic South Creek Greenway, the Springfield Art Museum and the Wonders of Wildlife aquarium. These major landmarks are connected by residential streets filled with unique older homes, large trees and blooming gardens. “It’s a good neighborhood of nice homes and pride of ownership; it’s close to both the mall, two of the big health systems, and nearby parks and schools,” says Jeff Frye, a Realtor with Jim Hutcheson Realtors who has lived in Springfield for nearly 30 years. “It’s very popular for people who appreciate the convenience of being right in town where you could walk to work or drive.”
The Seminole/Holland neighborhood offers a wide range of housing options.

Seminole Holland’s tidy, greenery-filled streets
The neighborhood’s ranch homes, bungalows and Cape Cod cottages were mostly built between the 1940s and 1970s. A single-story house less than 1,000 square feet in size might sell in the mid $100,000s, while a renovated four-bedroom cottage can be priced up to $300,000. There are some newly constructed properties in the area that average around $600,000, but these new residences are less common than the area’s midcentury homes. Seminole Holland stands out for its mature landscaping, with large trees, bushes and gardens taking up most of the area’s large lawns. Local streets and sidewalks are well-maintained, especially due to the Seminole Holland Neighborhood Association’s organized litter pickups.

Local trails connect right to South Creek Greenway
McDaniel Park runs along National Avenue and East Sunset Street on the southeastern corner of the neighborhood and is Seminole Holland’s main community park. The green space contains part of the South Creek Greenway trail, which connects to a larger greenway to the west of the neighborhood. South Creek Greenway spans nearly half of the western side of Springfield and contains a golf course, a botanical center, several manicured gardens, and even its own hospital and agricultural. South Creek connects to Wilsons Creek Greenway, home to the popular Rutledge-Wilson community farm.

Home of Andy’s Frozen Custard and the original Bass Pro
While Andy’s Frozen Custard locations can be found in 15 states, the Missouri-born company is based in Springfield. The chain has many locations in its birthplace, including one along South Campbell Avenue. Further down the Avenue is Springfield’s Incredible Pizza Company, which doubles as a buffet and family night out complete with go-karts and arcade games. On the north side of Campbell Avenue, Buckingham Smokehouse Bar-B-carves up tender brisket in a building modeled after a log cabin.
Buckingham’s Smokehouse is next door to MaMa Jean’s Natural Market, a grocer specializing in local, organic meat, produce, and other groceries. The market shares a parking lot with the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and another surprising attraction – the country’s first Bass Pro Shops. At 500,000 square feet, it is the largest location of the chain in the U.S.
One of Springfield's most distinctive businesses, Bass Pro Shops draws visitors from all over.
Andy's Frozen Custard is a popular destination for Seminole/Holland residents.

Mercy Hospital employees are a short commute from work
Seminole Holland is desired thanks to its proximity to Missouri State University and several local hospitals. Mercy Hospital is right along South National Avenue, and both Camp MCFP and CoxHealth Medical Center South are within 3 miles of Seminole Holland. “The hospitals are the two largest employers in Springfield, so it would be a good neighborhood for a young support staff at the hospital,” Frye says. While these local employers can be reached on local roads, the community is close to the South Kansas Expressway and Highways 60 and 65 for locals who need to drive elsewhere in the state.
Mercy Hospital is one of the area's largest hospitals and employers.
