Proximity to Baltimore, parks and small York boroughs in Springfield T
Country roads roll away from Interstate 83 along peaceful creek valleys and through the small boroughs of Jacobus and Loganville in the southern York County community of Springfield Township. “A lot of people know Springfield as the Loganville area, partly because all the little townships and towns are so close to each other. It’s not a hardship to drive between them,” says Debbie McLaughlin, a Realtor with Cummings and Co. Realtors, who has served northern Baltimore County and southern York County for 30 years. “Straight up from there, you’re at William H. Kain County Park; it’s so gorgeous that my friends got married next to Lake Redman. There are so many fun things to do around the area: playgrounds, lake fishing, places to take out a little boat. People from Baltimore move up here to live in the Dallastown Area School District around lots of farmers with no traffic.”
Single-family homes on small-town lots and rural acreage
In and around the boroughs of Jacobus and Loganville, National homes and other prewar styles line small-town blocks and quiet back roads. Suburban subdivisions have popped up on their borders and between Springfield Township’s forests and farms, beginning in the midcentury with ranch-style homes and continuing with a New Traditional boom from the 1990s through the 2020s. Most single-family homes sit on less than an acre. Houses built on these smaller lots before the 1980s sell for about $110,000 to $470,000, while newer construction costs around $290,000 to $580,000. Homes on acreage in the woods or a more spacious subdivision can go for $240,000 to $740,000, depending on luxury levels and lot size. Townhouses built from the 2000s through 2010s sell for around $250,000 to $400,000.
Dallastown Area schools and HACC Academy
Springfield Township is served by the Dallastown Area School District, which earns an A-minus from Niche. Kindergarten through third graders can attend the A-rated Loganville-Springfield Elementary School. Fourth through sixth graders move on to B-plus-rated Dallastown Area Intermediate School. Dallastown Area Middle School scores a B. A-minus-rated Dallastown Area High School offers seniors access to vocational programs through the Harrisburg Area Community College Academy, also called HACC Academy.
Exploring the outdoors at township and York County parks
York County maintains expansive county parks within Springfield Township. Richard M. Nixon County Park and William H. Kain County Park crown the community's northern border. “Nixon Park is the kind of place I like to take my grandkids for a little day trip,” McLaughlin says. “It’s got the nature center and trails for them to run around in the woods, get poison ivy – things kids like to do.” Lake Redman draws anglers and canoers to neighboring Kain Park. Spring Valley County Park positions even more forested trails and trout-filled branches of Codorus Creek to the township’s southeast. Another county park, the Heritage Rail Trail, parallels railroad tracks that run throughout York. Cyclists might stop at the historic Hanover Junction Station, just like President Abraham Lincoln did during the Civil War. Springfield Township Park is a more classic community green space, centered around a playground, athletic courts and baseball diamonds.
Borough businesses and shopping in Shrewsbury
Within the boroughs of Jacobus and Loganville, shoppers might browse locally owned businesses like Grey Beards Antiques and Collectibles or Brown’s Orchards and Farm Market. Mamma’s Pizza is a favorite for casual dine-in Italian or takeout pies. The Valley Tavern serves American fare in a historic hotel across the Heritage Rail Trail from Four Springs Winery, known for its icy wine slushies. For groceries, residents drive less than 10 miles to Walmart and GIANT in Shrewsbury.
Taking I-83 to York hubs, south to Baltimore
Taking Interstate 83, York is roughly 10 miles from Springfield Township. WellSpan York Hospital, a major health care center and employer, is also about 10 miles away. I-83 also takes longer-distance commuters to Baltimore, roughly 45 miles south. Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is nearly 60 miles from home.
The annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival
Bagpipes blare Celtic tunes on the third Saturday of each June, drawing visitors from Pennsylvania and Maryland to the annual Penn-Mar Irish Festival. Pheasant Run Greenhouse & Garden Center began hosting the festivities in 2025, opening their grounds to Irish craft and food vendors, step dancers and musicians. Churches like St. Peter’s hold religious services throughout Springfield Township.
