Quaint shopping centers and big recreational hubs near downtown Stamford
Suburban Belltown is a relaxed Stamford neighborhood with cottages, cul-de-sac streets and easy commuter access. The Stamford Jewish Community Center takes up 14 acres across Newfield Avenue, a two-lane thoroughfare also home to a massive retail center and several churches. Residents can walk to a standalone pizzeria and a deli on Belltown Avenue or enjoy playground equipment at 6-acre Barrett Park. “A lot of people move here because Toquam Elementary and Dolan Middle are right next to each other, and kids can walk there,” says Todd Auslander, a co-founder of The Auslander Kasindorf Team at Keller Williams Realty, who has sold several properties in the area. The nearby Springdale and Glenbrook MTA stations connect Belltown to cities across Connecticut and New York.

Belltown has midcentury homes and New Traditional options
Cracked asphalt roads in Belltown’s southern region were developed between the 1940s and ‘70s. Cobblestone paths lead to three-bedroom Cape Cod cottages. Colonial Revivals sit on quarter-acre lots dotted with purple hydrangea bushes and Norway spruce trees. Two-car garages are tucked beneath vinyl-façade raised ranch styles. Buying in this area typically costs between $600,000 and $700,000, in line with the average Stamford home’s $700,000 selling price. Cul-de-sacs in the neighborhood's northern region have early 2000s dwellings on half-to-one-acre lots. Half-circle driveways stretch in front of five-bedroom Classical-style homes. American beech and willow trees hide 4,000-square-foot neo-classical ranch styles. Prices in this area range between $800,000 and $1.25 million. A few red-brick condos and townhouses are along Newfield Avenue. Studios start at $150,000, and two-bedroom units can reach $500,000.

Indoor and outdoor recreation at the Stamford Jewish Community Center
The Stamford JCC has been a community hub for athletics and arts since 1981. “You don’t have to be Jewish to join,” Auslander says. “They’ve got a great fitness center and a bunch of different summer camps, so it’s very convenient to live near.” The six-lane indoor pool hosts swimming classes, water aerobics and competitive youth leagues. Six blue and green rubber tennis courts are outside, and pickleball nets stretch across the gymnasium every morning before they are removed for pick-up basketball games. Kids can join the three-week summer theater camp, ending with a musical performance in the amphitheater. Individual memberships cost $80 per month, and family plans are $130. Newfield Avenue is home to three religious centers, including the Union Baptist Church on a 4-acre property and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Three bells chime atop St. John’s Lutheran Church, known for its pumpkin patch fundraiser every October.

Sleepy Hollow Park is a 25-acre hiking spot spanning Haig Avenue. White-tailed deer are often seen running around the hardwood forests, and snapping turtles can be spotted swimming across the stream. Across the street, FreschCo is a small café with bagel breakfast sandwiches and rotating sub specials written on chalkboard menus. An Ace Hardware and another Grade A Market are in the Glenbrook Center on Hope Street. Glass high-rise office buildings and restaurants coexist nearby in downtown Stamford.
