'Shimmering lakes and rolling hills' in Twin Lakes

“Imagine waking up to the serene views of shimmering lakes and rolling hills every day,” says Benjamin Reeves, Realtor and CEO of the Titan Team at Keller Williams Realty. “It's the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle yet conveniently close to all the amenities you need.” Twin Lakes, 22 miles from Charlottesville and 6 miles from Stanardsville, has three lakes within walking distance from most homes. The nearest commercial area is 10 minutes away, but the neighborhood has a secluded feel, making it seem more rural. The homeowners’ association oversees home cleanliness, aesthetics, street parking and other community aspects. Residents who violate the community rules will be fined. “It’s important to review HOA fees and regulations to ensure they align with your lifestyle,” says Reeves.

Single-family homes from $160,000

Thick green oak, maple and ash trees surround wide, winding roadways named after flowers. Homes are built on manicured lots and separated by dense, green foliage. Most were built in 1996 with vinyl siding and porches or decks. Some homes have attached garages; others have detached garages or long, paved driveways. Street parking is prohibited. Raised ranch-style homes range from $160,000 to $280,000. More modern or updated new traditional and raised ranch-style homes range from $300,000 to $380,000.

Fishing in community lakes

Lake Skyline, Lake Shenandoah and Lake Greene are the area's main attractions. “People can fish,” says Peter Mcfarren, a Realtor with Howard Hanna Roy Wheeler Realty. Mcfarren has worked internationally in real estate for six years. “I haven’t seen anybody swim. There are walking paths and piers by the lakes and small creeks throughout the area.” Residents may get a community fishing license for free if they have a state one too. Nearby, Greene Community Park offers a playground for children to enjoy while families host get-togethers at the covered picnic tables. There’s an 18-hole disc golf course and hiking trails along with other outdoor activities.

Events in Charlottesville

Reeves says Twin Lakes hosts block parties, holiday celebrations and garage sales. For larger events, residents travel to Charlottesville. The Virginia Festival of the Book, held each March, celebrates local booksellers and books in general with local vendors, authors, and book-themed entertainment. The regional Virginia Film Festival, also in Charlottesville, attracts over 20,000 guests and features films by local and international filmmakers. Religious services are held at Swift Run Baptist Church, Stanardsville Baptist Church and other churches in the area.

Residents travel to Charlottesville, Ruckersville and Stanardsville for shopping and dining. In Stanardsville, Maybelle’s on Main is a locally owned coffee shop with a cozy atmosphere and outdoor seating. Ruckersville has a Walmart Supercenter and a Lowe’s along with other popular retailers and restaurants. Further down U.S. Route 29 is Hollymead Town Center, a popular shopping complex. Nearby, Timberwood Grill serves American pub food in a rustic atmosphere. “Residents love Timberwood Grill for a casual meal,” says Reeves. Groceries are available at Greene Great Value in Stanardsville and at Food Lion on Route 29.

Important to Know

Despite being minutes from three lakes, the community does not experience flooding, though water levels may rise after heavy rainfall, because the lakes are controlled by carefully monitored dams. “The lakes are fairly well controlled and mitigated, reducing any potential flooding,” says Reeves.
