A modern planned community surrounded by outdoor activities
Stansbury Park is a planned community situated at the northern end of Tooele Valley, near the base of the Oquirrh Mountains. Developed in the 1980s and '90s around the manmade Stansbury Lake, it offers an outdoorsy lifestyle within a comfortable commute of Salt Lake City. “It’s pretty small, and it has a very connected, neighborly feel,” says Caleb Metzger of Wise Choice Real Estate, a 16-year resident of Stansbury Park. “Water activities like swimming and boating are a big part of life here, which is pretty rare around Salt Lake. There’s also tons of hiking within a 20-minute drive, so it’s always easy to get outdoors.”

Stansbury Park homes back up to lakes and greens
Most properties are single-story homes built over the past three decades, reflecting contemporary suburban design trends with open floor plans and modest but well-maintained yards. There are also a few townhouses available around the edges of the community. Many neighborhoods in the community were developed with shared outdoor spaces in mind, including Stansbury Lake and Stansbury Park Golf Course. This planned approach has resulted in a cohesive environment where houses typically sit on moderate-sized lots that balance privacy with a sense of community. The median single-family home price in Stansbury Park is a little over $500,000, while the median townhouse price is around $360,000. The most expensive homes are on the lake and golf course. Policing in the area is overseen by the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office, but specific crime rates for this area are not available.

Stansbury Lake boating and Oquirrh Mountains hiking
Stansbury Park was designed with recreation in mind. Many homes in the area back up onto Stansbury Lake, but there’s also public access. The lake is a popular spot for a variety of water sports, including boating and swimming. The 18-hole Stansbury Park Golf Course winds through much of the community, presenting water hazards on 16 of its holes. Parks throughout the community feature baseball diamonds, soccer fields, playgrounds and a skate park. The Stansbury Park Observatory, managed by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society, features four of the largest telescopes in Utah — including the largest publicly accessible telescope in the world. Just east of the community, dozens of miles of trails crisscross the peaks and canyons of the north Oquirrh Mountains, which separate Stansbury Park from Salt Lake. The area has a four-season climate, with hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters.
Boating on the lake is always an option in Stansbury Park.

Retail along state Route 36
Commercial activity in Stansbury Park is concentrated along Utah state Route 36, which features clusters of businesses at the southeast and northeast corners of the community, including a few restaurants and the local grocery store, Soelberg’s Market. For more extensive shopping and dining experiences, residents often travel south to nearby Tooele, which is home to a few large shopping centers and a diverse dining scene. Locals can also head to the sprawling retail districts of west Salt Lake, which are a little over 15 miles away by car.

Tooele's Downtown Fest
While Stansbury Park doesn’t host any major events, small events and festivals are regularly put on by the local community association and the community’s five churches affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. And every Fourth of July, locals can head to nearby Tooele’s annual Downtown Fest, which features live music and food and craft vendors.
I-80 can get backed up
While a couple of Utah Transit Authority bus routes stop in north Stansbury Park, most residents rely on personal vehicles to get around. Interstate 80 passes just north of town and connects directly to central Salt Lake City, about a 30-mile drive for most residents. “A lot of people here commute to the city for work,” says Metzger. “It’s usually not too bad, but I-80 is basically the only fast way into the city, so when there’s an accident, things can get really backed up.” Utah state Route 36 runs along the east side of Stansbury Park and connects the community to nearby Tooele and other parts of Tooele County. It’s a 22-mile drive via I-80 to Salt Lake City Airport, which offers regular flights to over 100 destinations.
