Small neighborhood vibes near Staten Island’s main highway
Concord is a mostly residential neighborhood that straddles the Staten Island Expressway. Top ranked schools, verdant parks, modestly priced homes and a musical heritage that counts members of the Wu-Tang Clan among its former residents are among some of its main draws. However, being centrally situated is its best attribute. “Staten Island is great no matter where you buy,” says Helen Ting Fung, a broker with Ashford Homes Real Estate, “but Concord has that small neighborhood feeling, and it’s one of the most conveniently located neighborhoods in the borough which is ideal for residents who commute into Brooklyn and Manhattan every day.”

Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, Staten Island Expressway and reliable commutes
Accessed through the Staten Island Expressway, otherwise known as Interstate 278, The Verrazzano-Narrows bridge is the borough's main link to the rest of New York City. Downtown Brooklyn is a mere 11 miles away and is a 45-minute drive, depending on the time of day and traffic. The highway also connects to New Jersey and other points west, south and north. Residents commuting into Lower Manhattan for work can take the Staten Island Rail Road from the nearby Grasmere station and connect to the Staten Island Ferry in St. George. The trip takes an hour, as does a ride on SIM1C, SIM3C and SIM33C express busses. There are also other ferry services to stops along Manhattan’s West Side.

While condos in Postmodern complexes like Stonegate at Grasmere hover around the $600,000 mark, attached and semi-attached colonial revival homes range from $300,000 to $500,000. Tightly packed-in detached Cape Cods go for a similar range. Homes closest to elevated Emerson Hill and Todt Hill neighborhoods come in at a premium.
