Upmarket suburb perched on Staten Island’s highest point
Located in the center of Staten Island, Todt Hill is situated around the borough’s highest point and is widely considered to be its most affluent neighborhood. Large stately homes sit along quiet residential streets and private cul-de-sacs with old-growth trees. “One of the biggest things that the area is known for is that at more than 400 feet, it’s the highest point on the eastern seaboard between Florida and the Cape Cod peninsula,” says Joe Tirone a broker/owner with Compass and local expert. Homes in the area benefit from having views of New York Harbor and all of its attractions but also proximity to expansive green space.

Stately mansions within New York City
“If you’re thinking of buying a home in Todt Hill, be prepared to spend a little money,” says Tirone. “It’s even costlier than some trendy neighborhoods in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens. You can get spacious loft in upscale Tribeca, but you won’t have views of the country’s longest suspension bridge or the New York City skyline from your heated pool and outdoor kitchen, like here.” Homes range from postwar ranches at the bottom of the hill, priced between $700,000 to $1.2 million, to sprawling Tudor Revival and colonial revival mansions, selling for $2 million to $5.6 million. These multi-bedroom properties tend to have incorporated garages, large backyards and other luxurious outdoor amenities. In between, mid-sized split-levels, French Mansard colonials and Modern colonials hover around the $1.8 million mark.
