Stevensville residents enjoy small village living and Lake Michigan access
Stevensville is a residential village between the vineyards of Baroda and the lakeside destinations of Saint Joseph and Benton Harbor. It has a small downtown district, and a major interstate keeps the area connected to employers and large cities. Stevensville's suburban-style neighborhoods are part of Lincoln Charter Township, so residents receive services through the village or township, depending on where they live. Access to Lake Michigan and recreational spaces draws the community outside during summer, but neighbors find reasons to connect year-round. “The village has a very hometown-y feeling,” says Joelle Wake, director of the Lincoln Township Public Library in Stevensville. “Everybody knows each other from school or work. If not, somebody always knows somebody who knows somebody.”

Old and new village subdivisions offer a range of home prices
“In general, the pace of life is a little slower here and less expensive than places like Chicago, even with the tourists in summertime,” says Glenn Youngstedt, supervisor for the Lincoln Charter Township. The community has a blend of older neighborhoods and recently built subdivisions. Split-level, ranch-style and new traditional homes are the most common offerings. Condos, duplexes and contemporary-style houses are also available. Expansive grass lawns, long driveways and multi-car garages are typical neighborhood features. Prices range widely between $200,000 and $875,000, but the community’s median price is around $380,000. Manufactured homes in 55-plus subdivisions cost less than $100,000.

Residents socialize at the lake, library and park pickleball courts
Lincoln Township Park has playgrounds, pickleball courts and a large seasonal splash pad. Next door, people socialize at Lincoln Township Library. “We don’t have a community center, so we became the hub for people to meet,” Wake says. Hickory Creek Park focuses more on natural trails and creek access. Youngstedt says the township wants to implement a nonmotorized trail following Hickory Creek. “We’re still in the planning stages, but our residents have voiced that they want more trails,” he says. “This one would let people bike from Stevensville all the way into Saint Joseph. That’s a good 4 or 5 miles.” On the east side, several natural parks offer tree-lined trails and public beach access. These include Lincoln Township Beach, North Lake Park and Grand Mere State Park. Hockey teams play at The Garden Ice Arena, while soccer and baseball players meet at Kohn Sports Complex and Lakeshore Youth Soccer Complex.
