Stockbridge offers Peaceful rural living in New York's Madison County
Stockbridge is a rural town nestled in Madison County, right by the town of Oneida. The community offers country living with rolling hills and forested areas that invite outdoor recreation. Although shopping options in town can be limited, nearby communities offer a broader selection of businesses and restaurants. Located about 40 miles away, Syracuse provides amenities like hospitals and an airport. The area has a CAP Index Crime Score of 1 out of 10, lower than the national average of 4. “People come here for the views, the valley is beautiful,” says Sandra Wagner, real estate professional at eXp Realty with close to 10 years of experience. “The school is kind of the center of the community, they do many things and have lots of events.”
Stockbridge has a diverse housing stock on wooded terrain
Stockbridge features a wooded setting, with winding roads weaving through open fields and country landscapes. Houses in the village of Munnsville are closer together, set along neighborhood streets. Properties farther out in the countryside are more spread apart, offering greater privacy and space. Houses were built from the early 1800s to the present day, reflecting a diverse housing landscape. Architectural styles range from historical stone homes, small cottages and bungalows to traditional farmhouses and ranch-style builds. Most residential lots are under 1 acre, though some rural properties can have multiacre parcels. Prices generally fall between $150,000 and $350,000, with several fixer-uppers listed below $100,000. “Houses here typically sell quickly,” Wagner says. “You’ll see generations of the same families coming back to the community they grew up in.”
Public parks and sports fields offer year-round outdoor recreation
The town is surrounded by many recreational areas. Located in the village of Munnsville, Carlon Field is the community’s hub for youth sports and school athletics. Farther north, Verona Beach State Park is located on the eastern shore of Oneida Lake, offering many opportunities for water sports. The park also includes campsites and a 13-mile trail system for hiking, horseback riding and snowmobiling,
